LO's awake period still isn't very long. After 2 hours, she's very read for a nap. I find that it's hard to make plans with other moms, especially ones who's LO's never really napped well so they don't understand. We're supposed to go shopping with a friend this week and I have a feeling it either won't work out or I'll end up dealing with a cranky baby. Before I had LO we'd hang out all the time and her LO might fall asleep in the car, and then she'd just wake her up when we got there. If I did that with LO she'd be a crazy pants!

Yes, I still deal with this at almost 17 months! I have a hard time committing to things too far in advance because I just don't know how well my son will have slept. I tried to be more casual about it, but he doesn't respond well to not napping.

Yep! It was tough in the beginning. Got easier when LO turned 1.

It got easier when LO switched to 1 nap. My younger one is still on 2 naps so it's hard for us to make plans. On the weekends, we sometimes mess with one of her naps and she seems to do okay.

Yes, when my LO was on a 2 nap schedule, it was hard to make plans. It gets easier once they transition into 1 nap. We usually set a playdate in the morning and have lunch, and then head home for his nap.

This one nap thing sounds awesome! But then that's 2 more hours I have to spend during the day trying to find ways to entertain LO....

I don't have a LO yet, but I'm thinking it's going to be tough because I don't know many moms. there are several girls I went to HS with that have kids, but I feel weird about just messaging them and wanting to hang out!

@sorrycharlie: I had a very good mommy friend when I wasn't a mommy yet. I'd go there at least once a week and we would go to eat and maybe do some shopping if she needed to. I loved it, and she loved getting out of the house and having some help with her LO. I also go to lunch every once in a while with some non mommy friends. You should just strike up a conversation with your HS friends, they probably want some more mommy friends too!

I have this exact problem - my LO is almost 6 months and her awake time is 1 - 1.5 hour and then she is ready for a nap. She sleeps so much but only in her crib lately. And she is still taking 3 naps a day! I joined a mom group on meetup.com but I can hardly go to anything bc of her short wake time. I have gone to 2 park play dates but only bc they were close by. I do meet up with one friend about once a week even though it messes with LO's nap. I can't wait until her awake time is longer so we can get out more but like @Artbee it also means finding ways to entertain her longer at home - now I get all my cooking, laundry and cleaning done during naps

@artbee: Depends on how long that 1 nap is!
My LO used to take 2 one-hour naps. But now he takes 1 two-hour nap (sometimes even 3 hours) so it all kind of evens out!

The LO would always nap in the car or stroller (when she was younger) so I think I've always been pretty flexible about meeting up with people. But there are lots of moms who freak out about their kids' schedules so there aren't a lot of people to meet up with anyway.

@banana: My LO's naps total 3 hours now, at least. Usually it's one 2 hour and one 1 or 1 1/2 hour.

@artbee: I am really looking forward to the one nap period, because then we'll finally be able to go somewhere and do something, like music class or something like that. Right now they're all in the morning nap window, so it sucks not to have anything to do!
We do swim lessons, but they're at a weird time (5:40 pm).
