New York is part of the heat wave so I am cranking the A/C. I tried to hold out but it is now the hottest part of the day and I don't want the LO's bedroom to be too hot tonight so I want to cool the house down!

It's back in the 70s/80s since this weekend in Michigan. We haven't turned on the house A/C yet, but def have our windows open.
We have used A/C in the car.

It's on at work but I doubt I will turn it on when I get home because it's suppose to cool down by evening.

It's 54 degrees and rainy today. No sun. It doesn't get that warm here so we don't even have AC.

I'm housesitting for the parents, so I'm not turning theirs on, even though I'm tempted. my dad is so stingy with it that I'd feel bad.

its over 80 degrees where I am... but we just open all the windows. I dont like the AC although DH does, I prefer having fresh air

It's been hot for months. I think we only turned off the ac for a week this year.

@bree72: i guess not this year but i thought FL can have cooler winters? that must be some bill you have!
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
@Andrea: @bree72: It does get cold here! Cold for us at least. Just not this year.

Its about 75 here today, but a couple weeks ago it was close to 90! Perfect beach day and yet I was stuck in my classroom all day.

@artbee: yeah this year was just hot -- scared for the summer!!

@Andrea: It does get cold (well, for us) every once in a while, but it typically only lasts for a week or so at a time. A normal winter goes "32 in the morning, 80 in the afternoon." So with the constant change in temp, 80 feels like 1000 degrees and you're profusely sweating by the end of the day. But we almost never run the heat. Ever. We just throw an extra blanket on the bed because the house doesn't get below 65 or so because it can get so hot and sunny in the afternoon.
So the bills probably even out in the end. I might have a $500 heating/cooling bill in the summer, but it might be $50 in the winter.
We actually have an extra portable A/C unit in our bedroom during the summer months because we have such a large attic space, our house can get ungodly hot during the summer. And that's with solar attic fans.

We didn't have a winter, and we're still recovering from the worst drought in TX history so we've been running it through the winter.

It's warm.. not hot yet. But hot enough for me to turn the ac on!

YES and YES! It's upper 80's in Boston today - HOT!

If I had AC, I would be cranking it now!
Instead I am resorting to old-fashioned methods...close up all the windows in the morning, close the blinds, pull the curtains closed, and retain that cool night air!

Yes, I think we will be turning it on in the next day or two. We have had a couple of days in the 90's, but made it through with fans since we were expecting a cold few days this past weekend. I know now that once it comes on it won't be turned off again until October

@Andrea: I know. Hopefully LO will love the pool so we can get a lot of swimming in!
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@artbee: cool! Do you have a pool at your place? We will have to join some kind of pool to get access. Last year the DD was too young but maybe this year.
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
@Andrea: No, but my parents do, they're just 10 minutes away, and DH's parents have a community pool and they're 30 minutes away. We also just found a little sprayground that's pretty close- maybe that would be fun to do while you're here if it's hot out! http://www.tampabay.com/things-to-do/destinations/5686/kiwanis-sprayground/

Right now it's really nice here (high today was 68) and it should be in the 70's all week. About a month ago we had temps in the mid to high 80's for about a week and a half and I fought the urge to turn on the AC. I had all the windows open and fans running but I'm too cheap to turn on my AC in March! My husband was dying and I think the only reason he didn't turn it on was because he's gone so much.
I can't hold out too much longer though because I've been having issues with passing out when I get overheated so we'll be cranking that bad boy shortly.

Yeah, we'll be turning on the a/c upstairs tonight. I love having dual zone heat/cool! Last night was stuffy and hot. Tonight would be worse if we didn't. We only set it to 78,so it's not cranking.
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@artbee: DD was scared of that last summer. Hopefully she will be cool with it this year!

YES and YES. It hit 88 today. I keep the house at 72 during the summer so that's where it's set to.
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
@Andrea: Awww.... maybe not then. I'm sure as she gets older she'll start to love it. I know I do!

@BabyBoecksMom: us too. I think we maybe used the heat for a week in early January this year. We're serious about our a/c in Texas
