So when LO was born, we lived in a 1 bdrm apt and her crib was in the living room (but she slept in a PnP in our room). Fast forward to today, we are living in a house, LO finally has her own room, and we're playing catch up with outfitting her nursery. She's almost 1, we still nurse 2x day (but in the living room). Do you think it's necessary to have some sort of seating in the nursery? The space isn't the biggest so it'd have to be a small chair. I love the look of an armchair, but I haven't found one that is small enough that is also cost effective. Does anyone have any other ideas? Or should I just forget the seating and obsess about something else. 
We're just so used to doing everything in the living room (like nursing, reading, etc due to habit) but now I'm thinking it might be nice to do it in her room? At least the reading before bedtime part? Right now all she does in her room is sleep and get changed. We have a separate playroom downstairs next to the living room with all her fun stuff.

We spend pretty much all of our time in the living room, so that's where our rocking recliner is, where we do bedtime stores, etc.
He mostly just sleeps and occasionally plays in the nursery, otherwise we are in the living room so there is no need for seating in the nursery for us.

We live in a small space too, so LO's nursery doubles as a guest room. There was no room for much of anything once a bed, crib and change table were in there so she has no seating. When I opened this thread I was thinking how much I would have LOVED to have a rocker in there (or anywhere as my back pretty much aches constantly now that she weighs 17 lbs and will only be rocked to sleep which I have to do standing because we don't have a rocker) when she was a newborn.
I think if you don't find something suitable and she's already one, sticking with the routine of doing things in the living room is no big deal. We had an 80's papasan chair in our living room growing up that could fit our entire family and that's where we did our books before bed, and we thought it was great.

We use our glider to rock her to sleep but that's it. I don't nurse her there. It has become a necessity only for putting her to sleep and if you don't need that, I wouldn't stress about it.

We don't have any seating in there. Now that she's older, she eats standing up so I don't have to hold her heavy butt. But I'll easily walk into the family room if I have to

We do have a rocker but and we use it for reading books before nap and bed, and then sometimes in the middle of the night if he wakes up. I don't think you need one though, if you're current routine is working for you.

I'd say get a bunch of big and little pillows and make a little area just for reading before bed time. It can also be her little area to read on her own. Don't need something huge since it's a little girl's room. I'm about to sell the glider we brought overseas b/c we almost never use it. We just read books sitting on the floor with my youngest leaning against me behind him.

I'd skip the nursery seating and focus on child size table & chairs set or bean bag/ soft seating for independent reading. Land of Nod numbered pouf.

I liked having a chair in the nursery, or in any bedroom for that matter. It's nice to have a spot to sit to put socks on, to read before bed, unwind, for time out, etc.

Sometimes it's nice to have, but it's not necessary for us. The way we used it for #1 won't really be possible when #2 comes along, so we're going to move it to a different part of the house.

Nah... We had a glider and a twin bed in LOs room but we were mostly using the bed for nursing and reading books before bed so we moved the glider!
But I think if you are nursing/reading in other spots you are fine!

It's nice to have but only if you'll use it. If your routine doesn't require it, don't get one just to have it look like nurseries on pinterest!

Seating in the nursery.... allow me to say, but this is such a luxury American thing! I grew up in Hong Kong and apartments (ie. the ENTIRE living space) is maybe 600 sq ft. And we all survived without seating in our rooms (if we had a room to ourselves that is)
If you guys don't play in the nursery I wouldn't worry about it personally, but it is up to you of course

I had my eyes on a gorgeous blue glider but it was really expensive and I wasn't entirely sure how much use it would actually get. Instead, I bought an inexpensive glider/rocker on amazon. It was surprisingly comfortable, and I was looking forward to using it after Chloe was born.
Then I had a c-section with Chloe and knew there was no way I was getting in and out of a chair like that. Even after I was healed, I felt more comfortable nursing her on the couch or in my bed. We never even sat on the chair to read to her!
We didn't start to get use out of it until she was a year & we sleep trained. My husband used to sit in the chair until c had fallen asleep. Now that we have an established bedtime routine, we sit on it to read her books before bedtime.
It was used so infrequently that I don't plan on putting one in the new nursery. I can always bring a chair in when it's time for reading books!

I spend WAY too much on this beautiful comfortable glider in our nursery...we never use it. ONly within the last few weeks has she decided she wants to rock & read. Otherwise we were in the living room when she was an infant. I wish we would have just gotten a cheaper chair and put it in our living room (still might do it for #2.)

I don't think you need any specific seating, especially for an older child you are nursing less. I never nursed in LO's bedroom, I was more comfortable elsewhere. but we put a loveseat in there and I love having that - it's big enough for all 3 of us (including DH) to do bedtime stories in her room. and it makes useful storage for all the books. but truthfully . . . that's just the routine I'm used to and if you're used to the routine of doing all that in the other rooms, I don't think you need it!

We have a lazy boy rocker in the living room and nothing in his room. There's no need for it!

I think it's important to have somewhere to sit in the nursery. It is her room where we do her bedtime routine and I am a bedtime routine nazi. I think if you do bedtime routine somewhere else, it gets the child worked up as you move them to *their* space. Having a chair in the room keeps you and the child in their room to calm down and soothe before they go into their bed.

We have a chair that only gets used when lo is playing in his room and I sit in there. We never read in it and it's an arm chair so he's never been rocked in it.

I love the idea of some floor cushions and poufs. I think it would be fun to get down on the floor with LO and read books/snuggle before bedtime.
We don't currently have a glider in the nursery because we put it in our room since LO is sleeping there. The original plan was to put it in the nursery, but it's kind of big, so it might just go in the play area just outside of the nursery when we move her out of our room.

@mediagirl: that's sort of what I was thinking! we nurse on the living room couch and then we carry her off to bed......but I was thinking it might be nice to do it all in one room. She's really good at the transition though, doesn't fuss or wake up (all the way up the stairs and all!). But I sort of feel like it still might be nice.....

@Mae: I do have to confess I look at pinterest and have a little nursery envy! And I feel like poor LO got jacked with her living situation since she didn't have a space of her own for so long. But....we also don't have tons of money to make a pinterest-perfect nursery. Gotta pick and choose. I'm so envious of people who find such good stuff on Craigslist, etc....I feel like I can never find anything. I'm not a good DIY-er....can't really sew and definitely can't refinish/reupholster anything.

I like some of the ideas other people have suggested for other types of chairs. If nothing else, someday she may want you to sit in there with you and you may want something other than the floor!

@mediagirl: Thank you! She really is! Well, I think what I will do is....I'll keep my eye out for something perfect (and cheap!) but I won't rush to buy something just to have something in there.
It will teach me a lesson in patience.

@Ginabean3: I guarantee that moms care wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more about a cute nursery than the LOs do! Your LO isn't even old enough to remember her room. My mom never took a single picture of my nursery so I have no idea what it looked like except for what she told me (which was not super cute). I am not scarred for life.

I like having seating not for looks, but to read books on, change diapers, snuggle, etc. With my first I had a whole couch in there which was crucial. Now with two there's not as much room but I still have an armchair and floor pillows for storytime.

I think it is a nice option because if you want to hang out in LOs room it gives you someplace to sit other than the floor.

I had a very similar situation as you as we went from a one bedroom to a house when DS was about 7-8 months. We do have a chair in his room that we got for free from my parents. It does rock but otherwise it's just a big comfy chair. We only use it before bed when I try to read him a story and then we sit in it and rock for a few moments while I sing him his bedtime songs and then I put him in the crib. I used to nurse him in the chair in the morning and evening before he weaned. I don't think you need a recliner/rocking chair but I agree that you need some place to sit (whether a chair or pillows on a the floor)

We have a rocker but no one ever sits in it- basically it is just a catch all!
