A morning TV guest host suggested she needs to "drop a few pounds." Hmm, do you consider her fat or unhealthy looking?

My answer to this is SAY WHAT? Where does she need to drop a few? She looks great!

what! she is ridiculously healthy! that guy is just a hater.

Whaaaaat. I would kill to look like Michelle Obama. Those arms.
coconut / 8279 posts
Wow!
I think she's a great example of a fit, active, healthy woman.

Michelle Obama is pretty fierce. Who in the world would think she needs to change anything about her body?!
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
She's pear-shaped and at times doesn't wear the most flattering outfits . . . and she's definitely put on weight as well. Honestly, yeah, she could stand to lose a few pounds. I don't think she's "fat" though.
ETA: And as the spokesperson for "Let's Move" . . .

Also, when do you ever hear this kind of commentary about men in the public eye?! Its rare. So annoying.
wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts
First of all, even if she is, there shouldn't be comments on a woman's weight on national tv!
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
I don't think so either. Belly fat is supposed to be a good indicator of health and she's very slim in the middle. She is constantly showing off her stamina with impromptu activity at speaking engagements. She does have a big booty, but that's probably firm too.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@grizz: Chris Christie was dogged at about his weight. There were even jokes about him dying in office.
pear / 1787 posts
I sincerely hope she addresses this publicly. She is slamming and obviously health conscience and THAT is what matters. I can't imagine a universe where she is considered fat..... better get someone to come cut me out of my house if she's fat.

Erm WTF? Where would she be losing this weight from. I have seen that woman work out , she is fit and slim in great shape. Her booty is genetic and IMO beautiful. What a douche that guy is for such a comment, pathetic.
honeydew / 7091 posts
Is this seriously the guy that said Michelle Obama needs to lose a few pounds?! I'll keep my comments on that to myself...

@swurlygurl: Hey there Buddah Belleh.
I agree with the sentiment that, even if she does, who's business is it but hers?!
pomegranate / 3388 posts
Ditto previous commenters who said (1) She looks awesome and does not need to lost weight, and (2) This should absolutely not be the subject of national news. There are much more important things to talk about on a news network than the first lady's weight, which is her own business anyways!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
She's not fat or unhealthy looking by any means. She looks like an average sized fit woman. She's not out there campaigning for kids to become fitness models, but for average families to DO something. And I'm sure if she was some super fit/super lean model type, people would be less apt to listen to her. But it benefits her to be relateable in many ways! But she also doesn't look like she lives off of kale and carrots like this guy "joked" about and that's ok! The more I read about him, the more douchey he seems. He just seems like an asshole.
@swurlygurl, I had the same thought. Next thing you know, he'll be giving our marriage advice. He's got like, 3 under his belt, so he's a pro now...

What the heck do "unflattering outfits" have to do with being fat/unhealthy? Not a damn thing.
Anyway. She's not fat. She seems like she leads a healthy lifestyle. I'd kill for her arms. Could she "stand to lose a few pounds"? Hmm, that's between her and her doctor but I think she looks healthy. She has a booty and thighs, that doesn't make her unhealthy. I guess only a certain type of body is healthy to some people. And as the spokesperson for Let's Move she seems to be doing just that. I can't even count how many times I've seen her photographed dancing, working out, taking walks.

I think she's a beautiful, healthy, active woman. And her arms are killer! Anyone who thinks she needs to "lose a few" needs their head checked.
honeydew / 7230 posts
I don't care whether or not she has a few pounds to lose. In my opinion she's a pretty amazing woman and seems like a great wife and mom. That's much more important to me than a woman's weight.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Her arms are pretty ripped, I think she could beat that critic up!
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
I think she looks great. And I've always been a fan of the Let's Move campaign. She's never claimed to eat healthy 100% of the time (who does?), and that's not the goal of her campaign...I think it's more about awareness than anything. Even if she were fat I don't think it's an appropriate topic of conversation on national news.

This man is a buffoon and no, I do not think she needs to lose weight. However, even if she did is it really my - or the American public's- business? I hate that I am raising a daughter in a society with such bullshit standards for women.
pomelo / 5509 posts
Errrr no. She looks incredibly fit. Has she put on a few pounds over the past 6 years? I don't know, but even if she has, she's still not overweight, at least to my eye. Plus, it's totally normal for a woman's weight to fluctuate, especially as she gets older. She's obviously active and health-conscious, so I highly doubt we're going to see her transform into an obese person.
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: She's got muscle definition just standing idle!
pomelo / 5000 posts
@swurlygurl: Why do people even listen to Fox News? (Sorry if there are Fox News fans out there, but I have yet to be impressed with them!)
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I don't think jokes should ever be made about someone's weight, but Chris Christie's weight puts him clearly in an unhealthy zone. I would consider something like serious health issues when voting for someone high up in office.
pomelo / 5509 posts
@MsLipGloss: I feel like any woman of a healthy weight could probably "stand to lose a few pounds" without entering into the category of being too thin, but that doesn't mean that they need to or even should. And I really don't understand what unflattering outfits have to do with anything.
Also, the message behind the "Let's Move" campaign is not "Be skinny" it is "Get fit" and she definitely is that and practices what she preaches. I feel like maaaaybe gaining a few pounds over the course of 6 years has absolutely no bearing on that.

1. NO
2. Even if she were, isn't raising two girls in the white house and being the first lady is hard enough without this garbage? Why make it even harder on her?
3. I am thankful DH has no interest in ever becoming president.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Since when is being First Lady a reason to judge her physical appearance? I think that's just disgusting, however I think she's healthy, obviously works out, but she is in her 40s and we all know with age things are harder to keep tight. I think she's doing a damn good job of doing what she can to maintain her physique and Mr. Muffin top should shut his mouth.
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
@Happygal: health is a valid concern, but weight jokes are mean-spirited.
