I hope so because we did, and most of the parties we've been invited to have specified "no gifts please" on the invite

I would love to request no gifts, too, but I have been worried about how that would come across. I have never seen this request IRL and we go to a lot of parties.

I don't know. I think I would feel weird about it like maybe it sounds like I want money (but I'm always paranoid about doing the right thing in situations like that.) I'm in the same spot because after Christmas, she doesn't need anything at all. I'm thinking of doing a small family only party and just telling my mom and fsil she'd like summer dresses or sandals and then organizing a play date with her little buddies but no invitations and just tell the other moms, no gifts it's not a party but bring some cupcakes. We might take her on a trip for her third birthday.

I included a little card that said "Please no presents, just your presence" and it seemed to go over pretty well.
That being said...most people still brought at least a book.

I'm glad others have done this and didn't get backlash from family! DS gets way too much plastic crap we don't have room for, and I don't know how to put a stop to it. Some relatives will even bring him a present if it's someone else's birthday. I hope if I start telling people not to give him so many gifts, they won't think I'm rude.

I've seen it before, and as long as it's worded gently, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it!

Yes, it's fine, but people may give you a hard time and they may bring a gift anyway.
