I have wondered the same thing. I heard GREAT reviews on it, but I decided not to buy it because I read some very scary reviews about the legs being choking hazards. They released a modified version that has the legs connected to eliminate the hazard but the new version is vanilla flavored and doesnt have as great reviews

It just depends on the baby. We have the regular Sophie, and he's not really into it, especially since he tends to poke himself in the eye with it. But he adores the Sophie teething ring.

@Mrsbells: That's the one he loves, but it's not vanilla scented.

@bree72: I think its absolutely hilarious when little boys have "Sophie". I am getting one for my son once he's born and starts to show interest in toys.
I'd think any teether would work, wouldn't it?

@bree72: Oh so you can get a non-vanilla version? I will look into that

@TurtleDoves: the frozen teethers are what we have now but he doesnt seem to like them. thats why i was wondering about the sophie

After trying numerous types of regular teethers, frozen baby wash cloths, and just about anything else I can think DD might like, all of which have failed miserably, I'm seriously considering a Sophie if I don't see a difference using the amber teething necklaces. For now though, we don't have one b/c I think they're overpriced.
(in hindsight if they help then I guess you can't really put a price on that. lol)

My LO isn't really interested in Sophie. I would think any teether would work, and maybe try out a "standard" one first, so see if your LO even likes the concept.
I only have one because it was a shower gift.

@runsyellowlites: haha the price is the sticking point for me too! it's like do i buy it and get mad if it doesn't work because it was so expensive. or not buy it and always wonder if it could have been a worthwhile expense...sigh! lol

for us it was totally worth it. Liv LOVED hers. She still plays with it now. Grabs it around the neck and squeezes it to torture the dog because he wants to play with it so badly lol.

@TurtleDoves: I like to refer to it as Pierre so he sounds more manly.

@LivsMama: hahaha cute.
we don't have it and I wonder what the hype is about. DS was totally "meh" about teething and just gnawed on any of his other toys.
@bree72: cute

Yes!! This helped out DD so much, it is VERY pricy for a teether, but for the relief it was worth it to us.

I voted other. We bought the regular Sophie on sale and got the teether as a gift. My LO loves Sophie but he loves his pacifier more.

We were given one as a gift, but we definitely wouldn't have spent the money to buy one ourselves. LO likes to play with it, but she chews on the Winkle and other toys just as much. She doesn't discriminate

I got one as a hand me down and a lot of the paint had rubbed off, which weirds me out a little so I donated it and plan on trying wood & natural rubber ones. I also read the choking hazards, which turned me off from it.

LO is 4 months and loves to chew on Sophie's face. He also laughs hysterically when we make Sophie squeak! We got two as gifts, but I don't think we would have bought it on our own. I think there are plenty similar but less expensive toys out there.

@scg00387: I read online that the "paint" is food paint and it is safe! I didn't know such a thing existed.
We did register for a Sophie- hoping someone will buy us one!

I personally think so... it's one LO's favorite toys and it keeps her occupied in the car. Plus it's easy to wash off and keep in the car. LO loves the squeaker, but the downside is that it drives our dogs bonkers... hahaha.

@coacheswife123 that makes sense, i'm sure they wouldn't use non-edible paint on a teether i hope someone buys one for you too!
@mungbean i didn't even think of that, my dog would definitely think it was for him!
