I'm trying to find colors for our nursery, and we are team green ! DH really loves orange, so I want a color palette with orange in it for sure!
DH thinks that teal is to boyish though, I think it would work!
Is this palette too boyish?

My "no" vote was answering "is it too boyish?" but I think the poll is a little confusing because the thread name is the opposite? if that makes sense?

I do think it's pretty masculine, but depending on how you accessorize it, it could work.
What about substituting that dark rust color for a brighter green?

I think that color palate would very much work for a girl. It's colorful!

I do think that color palette seems like it's designed in mind with a boy. I think the darker gray and the rust red makes it swing that way a bit more then allowing it to seem more gender neutral.

The colour palette alone looks more "boyish" but it would totally work with "girlish" textures to balance it out. More soft fabrics, less straight lines.

I think it leans a little "boyish," but not for the reasons your DH thinks. I actually think the teal and light blue are the "girliest" of the colors up there. I agree with others, the rust is what's taking me to the boy side. Maybe a brighter, more vibrant color instead?

I think it could go either way, depending upon which colors you choose as main versus accents.

I don't think it's too boyish. I think they're all great colors, and also don't lean too young (like pastels do), so it would be a great color scheme to grow up as baby does.

Whoops I voted incorrectly. I think the teal DOES make it look more boyish, I voted it didn't. I like the Orange and all the other colors though!

I don't see how it's too masculine. Looks like fun colors.

Shoot! I voted yes - but meant I think it is gender neutral! Not too boyish in my opinion.
We did a very similar palette for our gender neutral nursery - though without the red. I figured if we had a girl I could always add some light pink accents or for a boy add navy (or red).

I love the colors, and would not mind having a girl nursery on the slightly more boy-ish side.

I agree with pp...the rust color makes it more masculine to me.

Our little girl has an orange and blue nursery, and I love it! That said, I do think the darkness - particularly the red is pretty masculine. I'd probably lighten the grey up some, and maybe ditch the red.

I think it is very masculine. I would switch the red with another color, maybe purple?
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
I think it looks good. Maybe leave out the red and gray until baby comes and then decide some purple or girlier colors later.
Our team green nursery was teal and I loved it for our little girl!

It reminds me a lot of this bedding set from PBK that I LOVE:
http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/rowan-nursery-bedding/?pkey=bunisex-nursery-bedding&
it's a bit more masculine but i think you could soften it up by adding some more pastels... i just love the colour scheme of that PBK set and think it's very unisex and might be good inspiration for you!

We are also and I have to keep telling people that the things we've bought and the stuff on our registry does not reflect secret knowledge that we're having a boy. It's just most stuff that isn't pink, purple and sparkly gets interpreted as boy. Other people's stereotyping is the problem; not your color palette.

Leans boy to me. Even when I cover up the red or teal it still seems masculine. The brown - gray color is definitely boy with these other colors.

Gah! Sorry for the confusing poll, that was my fault!!
Thanks for all the input!! I might be leaning more towards just the teal, gray, and orange. Probably leaving out the red and light blue colors. I can see I guess how it might come off as masculine.
Also our nursery "theme" is going to be the ABC's. I'm going to do something like this on one of the walls.

Oops I voted wrong too, I definitely think it would work for both genders!

@MrsBrewer: i love the idea! I also really like your idea of teal, orange, and gray. We have a lot of orange in our nursery, which we designed to be gender neutral. It had a few splashes of hot pink, too, but I decided that I would swap out hot pink for red if we had a boy. We didn't so I kept it!

Leans boy to me. I'd cut the gray and the red, personally... although it could work if you kept the walls pale and used the red as more of a small accent.
I like this nursery! It's a boy nursery, I think, but I think it's pretty neutral.

I guess I have a different take on nursery decor than most people do. I feel like you should pick colors that you like and that you feel comfortable looking at for hours of nursing and diaper changes. The baby is not going to care if the colors line up with society's understanding of gender norms.
pomelo / 5093 posts
I don't believe that any color is 'boy' or 'girl', so I'd say just go with what you like. Seriously, who cares? If your kid grows up to hate it, they can repaint it themselves.

What about cutting the blue and adding in a yellow? I think it's masculine, however it's colors, accessories could make it girlie if that needs to happen!

@lady grey: I like those suggestions! I definitely feel the original palette is too boyish.
coconut / 8854 posts
@lady grey: love those colors!!
So would you think of this as a boy crib then??
persimmon / 1385 posts
I think the crib bedding is gender neutral. The lack of rusty red and a lighter gray I think helps lighten it up!
grapefruit / 4584 posts
Agree the bedding is neutral. I think that the patterns you use with those colors could help make a room look more masculine/feminine...for example, turquoise quatrefoil pattern reads "girl" to me even though it's blue, but the same colors in stripes or checks looks more masculine.
