We won't have any money for new furniture after our down payment and necessary renovations so it will take some (a long) time to get everything!
Do you still need to buy or replace furniture for your house?

After 3.5 years, I think we're just about done furnishing, finally! We have to invest in art next. Lots of bare walls!

Our house is fully furnished now (well, save for nursery furniture, as we're in the process of converting our third bedroom/office into the nursery), but it definitely took us awhile. We didn't finish furnishing it until after our wedding and, at that point, we had already lived there for two years. We had an empty formal dining room that whole time

CONGRATS on the new house!!!!!!
Our house is totally OVER furnished. We have our master bedroom, the two kids' rooms, the living room and kitchen all furnished, AND our basement now includes all the furniture for a guest room (queen sized bed!) and a living room (couch and loveseat!). We also have a coffee table, two end tables, and two lamps in storage.
Seriously, over furnished. We could move into the house we need now (4 bedroom) and not need to buy another piece.
Although everything is not really up to par in terms of quality so of course I'd want new stuff for the master bedroom and living room. HAHA. bahhhhh.

We're good on furniture. We're minimalists so we have the bare essentials.

Awesome on the new house!
Ours is fully furnished - we got married right after we bought our place and used wedding money to furnish along with a bunch of money in savings. But the furniture perfectly fits THIS space (a 2+ bedroom condo) and is quite modern. Not sure what we'll do when we move!

Congratulations on the house!!
We moved into our house 6 months ago and it is not fully furnished. We moved from a 2 bedroom townhouse that was fully furnished. My advice would be take your time and make sure to buy stuff you want, not just buy crap stuff so you can fill a room. There is nothing wrong with having empty rooms.

@littlek: Good advice! The empty rooms can be playrooms for now!

Congrats on the new house!
Our house is fully furnished, but it's small. 1,445 sq ft (3 bed, 2 bath). One of the bedroom is an office so there's a desk and a couch, then we took my bed from my parent's house and put that in our spare bedroom. Only thing we really needed to buy was a couch for the living room and a small dining room table.

Yay for the new home!!!!
Ours is technically fully furnished, but some of the stuff is a little outdated. I'd like a new kitchen table set and we will be buying a new recliner for Christmas.

Ours is fully furnished, although a lot of it are hand-me-downs so we could do with some replacing. Which we've slowly been doing.

Our house is not fully furnished. We have a split level and the lowest level we haven't touched yet in terms of renovating. We want to eventually make it a giant family room/playroom. Right now it has a treadmill, a drum set that belongs to DH's friend, and a bunch of extra furniture we don't know where to put.

My house isn't furnished completely yet. I still need a desk, an entertainment center, a proper bed for the guest room, and some shelves. My husband is going to build those things for us. There is also some furniture that needs remodeling too. My house is a long way from being finished!

Congrats! How exciting!
Our house is now fully furnished, though we still have to add some end tables to our basement. When we moved in two years ago, all we had was our bedroom furniture and couch. It took us a year to furnish our living room (including art) and this past year we tackled the guest room, nursery, office and basement.
I agree, don't try and furnish things right away. It took me a while to figure out our style, and i now regret the dining room chairs we bought with the dining table. Other than that, i don't regret any of our purchases, most of which we were able to buy when the stores were having promotions.

It has been over 3 years since we first moved in, and we are far from being fully furnished. We're working on it, but there are always bigger priorities like a new roof and fixing the air conditioning.

Our current house is fully furnished, but the house we're building is a lot bigger, and that was one of my first concerns! Our current house has one dining room, and one great room/living room. We also have 3 bedrooms (master, nursery, combo guest/office). The new house will have a formal dining room, plus a casual eat-in area off the sideof the kitchen, and we'll have a Great Room and a formal living/family room, and then there will be 4 bedrooms plus an office. So I'm kind of freaking out about that after we'll have dropped so much cash to start the build and then close when it's done! I may have to have some empty rooms for a little while!

Considering that we moved from a cramped duplex to a 2,500 square footer with a full basement, the house is surprisingly well furnished...we had that duplex packed like a clown car! (Or an even better comparison: like my uterus at this current moment in time)

Yep, it's fully-furnished! But a lot of the furniture is furniture we already had--our 2 guest rooms each have a queen bed, but they are mine and DH's old beds (we upgraded to a king set when we moved in). Our eat-in kitchen table is DH's old dining table, and our desk is my old desk.

Umm no! We still haven't finished decorating our house! Still need a ton of furniture! It's a slow process especially bc money is tight! Congrats!!

Our condo is pretty small, about 1300 sq ft, and we are fully furnished! I keep seeing cute furniture that I like but hold back because I know we have no place to put it!

We were so broke when we bought this house we joked that we were going to have a BYOChair party so that people could have somewehre to sit. We're getting there (almost 3 years later) but a lot of our stuff is still hand me down or second hand purchases. One room at a time we keep updating and upgrading.

Congratulations on the house!!!
We've been in our house for almost 2 years now and definitely not fully furnished yet. It's got everything we need though.
We still don't have a bed/headboard for our master bedroom (it's just on the frame thing). In fact, I think the master bedroom could use a few more pieces including a rug.
Our formal living room in the front entrance of the house is missing any seating! lol! I'd love to furnish it all, but I'm rather picky and it's not a financial priority in any way right now. DH is happy to leave some of the house empty though for space for LO's toys and gear....
P.S. I DID MAJOR Black Friday shopping 2 years ago to get some of the things we needed for the new house. If you need any appliances, today is a GREAT day to try and get them to save money and get free shipping. (and use eBates!)

Congrats on the house! We've been living in our house for 3 years now. (3 bed 1 bath) when we moved in we moved our Apt bedroom set into the spare room, our office/sewing stuff into the other spare room and left the largest room empty until we could afford a new bedroom set. We lived in the spare room for about 9 months.
Downstairs we had hand me down couches, ikea entertainment pieces and a diningroom set that my BIL inherited when they purchased their house which is way too big for our dining room. Slowly we've been replacing pieces 2 years ago we used wedding money to get a sectional and coffee/console tables. right now I'm in the process of trying to sell the dining room set to put towards a new one i picked out.

Yes, but only because we're in a small-ish (about 1100 sq.ft.), one-level townhome right now. We're looking at buying a house soon, and there will be quiiiite a few empty rooms for awhile!

We have too much furniture. When DH moved in, we were combining two entire houses into my house, which was smaller than his. He likes big furniture and it doesn't necessarily go with my small house, so we'll have to put a bunch of it in storage when we upgrade to a larger house.
pomegranate / 3983 posts
Our house is full of furniture. We're over-furnished in some places- 2 offices and I don't use mine anymore, and still missing some things in others- like for baby #2. We'll be doing some selling and buying in the next couple of months.

We went from a 2 bedroom apartment to a much larger house. We have a formal dining room that needs furniture and the loft upstairs needs stuff. We also have a little sitting area by the formal dining room that needs stuff, but we aren't too worried about that right now.
