A is pretty shy when we get around people she doesn't know or large groups of people, like a family gathering/party/holiday event. It takes her quite some time to warm up and when that finally happens it's usually time to go. E is in her separation anxiety phase so she cries when people get up in her face (I would too) but is ok and will smile if I'm holding her.
Is your LO shy around people they don't know well, or if they are in large group? Or are they pretty outgoing?

I don't know when the shy stage typically hits but I don't think we've hit it yet. She's constantly reaching out to people to hold her, and if someone says anything to her she has to smile and bounce and make monkey sounds and reach out.

She's shy when we first get somewhere, but after 5ish minutes she's not shy at all anymore.

Absolutely not. We went to the farm show tonight and he was talking to everyone possible left and right. The guys operating the parking lot, the cops directing traffic, the farmers, the animals....

DD is 33 months old and has always had major separation anxiety at social events. It would take 2 hours for her to finally warm up to our friends...and we end up leaving 30 minutes later. Now it takes about 15 minutes for her to warm up, if it is with people we know. It's gotten a lot better in the last few months. But if we suddenly are not in sight she will freak out. Sigh.

Yup, sounds like my kid. She clings on to me and takes awhile to warm up. When she finally does warm up she's all smiles and so much fun but then it's time to go.

No, not at all. His worst nightmare is being stuck at home with his parents and no one to "entertain." We are both pretty reserved and ended up with a super social kid somehow.

She is shy for maybe a couple of minutes and then she is fine with everyone. With new places she takes maybe 5-10 minutes to warm up and then she is like "see ya Mum!" and off she goes. I don't know where she gets her confidence from because both DH and I are pretty introvert people.

Nope. N loves other people and new places. Once in a while he will freak out if I am not in direct eye sight. He likes to check in but otherwise the new people are way cooler.

Yes, both of my kids are pretty shy. Since starting preschool DS1 has improved a lot. He isn't afraid to approach other kids, but he is still pretty quiet.

LO 1 sounds just like A! LO 2 is kinda clingy at first but warms up quickly.

For the first 5-10 minutes she clings to me, and then once she's warmed up she's back to her outgoing/crazy/wild self.
