I try really hard not to spoil Liam. It's tough because we are surrounded by a lot of wealth and material things. It's hard to tell him no you can't have a certain toy (he has a ton of toys) when his little friends are tripping over new toys every day. I'm also trying to teach him sharing and that mommy can't stop speaking to someone else just because he is screaming my name. I have a new baby on the way and he needs to get these lessons down now before it creates a real meltdown haha.

My husband is gone often for work (about two weeks every month) so he comes home and wants to spoil him with 'things' but I put a stop to that pretty early. Children may want stuff for a little while but what they really crave is time and attention so now he makes sure to spend lots of time doing fun things with him when he's home.

She's not old enough to be spoiled yet.

We can't afford to spoil her with things so I'm not really worried about that. I was spoiled growing up and my hubby wasn't, so I'll be looking to him for how to not spoil our baby.

my husband spoils my son more than i do and it's starting to show. We've had a conversation about it and really need to start being a little more strict.

My sweet SD is fairly spoilled. Its hard NOT to at times especially seeing as we dont have her all the time. But we try our best to make her appreciate what she has. For examply. She is old enough (8) to clean her room and be responsible for her thing and have shores. So she is responsible for making her bed and keeping her room clean and what not. if she leaves and her room a mess, we collect all the things she did not put away or left on the floor. The toys she leaves out we collect up and take out of her room. She can not have them back unless she does a chore and earns them back. Its our way of reminding her to appreaciate her things and take care of them.
One time in a store we bought her a TON of things. We were back home where I grew up and at my parents house. Were buying a BUNCH of things to keep at Grandma's and Grandpa's house toys and what not. On the way out started complaining because she saw some silly cheap toy and wanted it and we said NO. One, we had already checked out, TWO---ummm NO we had bought a TON of stuff already. So we were walking out and she started pouting and rolling up into a tantrum about not getting the stupid $3 toy or whatever it was. We STOPPED walking and I looked at her and said "Lets go!" puzzled she asked where, and I told her back in the store to return everything we just bought. She was 6 at the time. She looked horrified and the whining and tantrum over the toy stopped. We told her that if she did not appreciate the bags full of stuff we DID just buy, then she didnt need them and that she was being very rude and not appreciative of what she was getting.
