LO is still too young but *I* used to be stubborn about saying sorry because no one wants to say it when they're still mad/sad about whatever it is. But being forced to say sorry when you don't even mean it (yet) totally sucks! I remember crying in anger because I didn't want to say sorry but I was getting in MORE trouble for not saying it. Then I'd yell it, like, "Fine! Sorry!" then I'd get in even deeper trouble...SIGH...

Eventually, I learned to just suck it up and say sorry.

@mrbee: I think grade 1? The incident I described above happened when I was 4...I remember it so clearly. I just realized that if I didn't say sorry "nicely" then I'd get in more trouble. Also, I should mention, that I was very angry about saying sorry because I actually didn't even know why I was in trouble in the first place. My dad didn't explain to me what I did wrong...It was just evident that I had done something bad.

My much younger brother was hilarious about saying sorry. He would make up ANY excuse he could to not say it when someone asked. My favorite thing he said was "I can't right now, I'm too itchy". It was my favorite line from him for a long time.

Wow, we had the same exact scenario today... She was getting better about saying sorry in a pretty timely manner, but today she kept refusing, but finally said/mumbled it!
