In our family, all middle names are after someone. In DHs family that is mostly the case, except his sisters middle name is Leigh because my ILs just liked it.
I think our kids will have family middle names, because we have a lot of great options (Anne, Jane, Brooke, John, Matthew) and I like the idea of honouring family.
What's the case in your family? Vote more than once if it's different for each LO!

Our girls both have a family middle name and my last name as a second middle name. Our first daughter also has a family first name, but our second daughter's name is new to our families!

The middle name will be a family name of sorts...if it's a boy, his MN will be after my deceased uncle and if it's a girl, her MN will be my grandmother's MN. DH asked me not to use any living relatives' first names.

E's middle name is my MIL's maiden name. I won't say I loved it, but I do love the way it flows with his first name (also a family name) and it made his mom's side super happy that we used it.
ETA: His name is Evan Charles.

We have a boy, but even if we had a girl, our LO's middle name would have still been my late father-in-law's name. My husband is so much like his dad and it was devastating when he passed 2 years ago, two months after we married. It feels like a lovely tribute and remembrance.

My LO's middle name is my paternal grandmother's name (she passed away before I was born so this was more about honoring my dad).

@Mrs. Jacks: we might do that too! but my maiden name could also easily be a first name for a girl, so we could use it as a first. if not it will be a 2nd middle for all kids!

My son's middle name is my Dad's first name and also my middle name. I was the third girl, so my Dad gave up on trying to get a boy and I got his name! I've always loved my name (Amanda Glenn).

K's middle name is my MIL's name. If we ever have a boy, his middle name would be FIL's name. If we have another girl, it's a conundrum because my mom's name doesn't sound good as a MN. We might use my mom's maiden last name.

Yes, her middle name is a shortened version of my mom, paternal grandmother and two maternal great-grandmothers. They didn't all have the same name, but this name can serve as a nickname for all of them. In a way it honors my maternal grandmother too since it's after her mother and her daughter.

DH has 2 middle names and these two names are DS's 1st and middle names. In a funny coincidence, these were my top two boys names long before I met DH.

Yes, we decided if it was a girl, her middle name would be DH's grandmother's name, if it was a boy, it would be my grandfather's name. Both served in WWII and whilst neither are alive today, they are truly inspirational people.
We were TG so when LO was born, we named her right away.....but didn't find out until a few weeks later that we'd mistakenly used the wrong spelling of DH's grandmother's name! We went with Vivian when his grandma's name was spelled Vivien. I actually preferred it with an -en but wanted to keep it true to her spelling.....sigh, I was not happy when we found out that we'd spelled it wrong. DH is a bit of a scatterbrain when it comes to this stuff!

DD's middle name will be Lynn which is both my mothers middle and my paternal grandmother's middle. I have always wanted to have a girl so I could do that. So excited!

Dd middle name was a name dh liked and wanted to be her first name but my #1 choice won and his name was bumped to middle name. And her second middle name is my late mother's name

DS has DH's first name as his middle. If this baby is a girl it will have my middle name. If we have another boy we will use ether DH's middle or a variant of his first or middle name.
We have a similar tradition in my family. I have my mothers middle name and my one brother has my dad's. Purifier brother has a varient form of my dad's name for his name (it is nothing like my dad's name, but they are both used as nicknames for the same different name with the same meaning).

Pretty sure all our kids will have a family name as a middle name. I am the 7th generation of Sue's on my side so we plan on continuing that tradition. We also want to use DH's name some how because he was named after his father & we would also like to us my grandpa's name. He passed away in October & it breaks my heart he won't be here for this. *Holy cow here come the pregnancy hormones*

It was important to me that both kids have a family name as some part of their name. DD's first name is after DH's grandmother (also happened to be my grandmother's best friend's name) and a random middle name that we both liked. DS's first name is new to the family but his middle name is the same as DH, FIL and BIL's first name.

My mom and I share the same middle names as her mom and my great grandma. It was a long standing tradition that girls middle names are Marie.
I broke that tradition with Chloe, though. Her middle name is Anne, a shortened version of Suzanne. My aunt Sue passed away a few years ago and was so important to me and my husband. We decided to name Chloes middle name after her.

Our LOs middle name will most likely be Robert. It's my DH's name, which is also his grandfathers name and a cousin who passed away from cancer as a kid.

I'm still pregnant with our first LO, but we plan to give him or her, as well as any future kids, my last name as a middle name. They'll probably hate us for it, as it's long and doesn't sound like a "normal" middle name, but we travel internationally a lot and I want my last name on their passports. I thought of giving a second, "normal" middle name but DH doesn't like middle names at all and deciding on first names we both liked was hard enough, so that's unlikely. I figure they'll mostly use the middle initial, if anything, in everyday life, so they'll just deal with it.
