We adopted our pup from the local SPCA and all pets leave there with a microchip.

One is one isn't. Our little lady came with a chip and we had it re-programmed. We never chipped our dude, though I don't think he can imagine a life without dog beds, he'll never go far! lol!

Yup! She had to have some kind of procedure done (I forget what) and they asked if we wanted to have the chip put in while she was sedated.

I have seen so many success stories (and many more sad stories when it isn't done) first hand from having this done. I beg anyone who hasn't done it yet- PLEASE do it ASAP!! Many local shelters/humane societies will do it at a much reduced cost!
Also if you have recently moved, please be sure to update their database with current contact information. This gets forgotten all too often.

We had our kitty microchipped after we moved to a single-family home. Before, we'd always lived in big condo/apartment buildings where the likelihood of him getting out and going very far was pretty much nil, but now he actually could sneak out. I felt much better after it was done.

Yes. I had all of our family dogs chipped since they were puppies. I met someone who's dog was stolen and returned months later because the vet told the thieves she knew the dog wasn't theirs.

We had both our cats chipped last August for $45. They are indoor only and I worry that one day, one of the LO's will accidentally let them out. It's obvious they are pets (persians) so I wanted them chipped

I second the advice to keep the chip up to date. Also, if your pet came with one and it was never registered, do that now. The company only has your information if you give it to them (not every shelter, pet store, breeder, rtc does). As a former shelter worker, it is heart breaking to get a pet in, scan the chip, and call the company only to have no info or wrong info returned. Then you know the animal has a family, but you have no way to get him or her back to them. Sad and frustrating.

Yup, we got her at the animal shelter so she was already chipped.

Neither of our cats are. They don't ever leave the house, and have no interest in escaping, so it hasn't been necessary.
