We live about 5 minutes from FIL and 7 minutes from MIL. DH is definitely closer to his Mom and they talk almost everyday and see each other 1-2 times a week. DH talks to his Dad maybe 1-2 times every two weeks and sees him about once a month. His dad isn't much of a talker and likes to watch TV and drink beer alone.

DH is close with both, but probably a little bit closer to his mom. -
Hes very close to both. He's a mommy's boy, but for very personal problems he'll go to his dad.

I'd say closer to his mom. They talk frequently, she calls A LOT. If there is a disagreement, he will side with his mother over his father. I think he is protective over her more than that they are close in the way I'm close with my mother & enjoy spending time with her.

We are 8-9 hour drive from both and he rarely calls either one. I'd say he's probably closer to his mom. His dad calls more often, and his mom asks me why he hasn't called. (MIL and FIL have been divorced for several years.)
