This came up the other day while I was talking with the hubs. We are each other's best friends and the hubs said that is how it should be but I don't think so. But very sweet that he was adamant that we should be (and are) best friends. How is it in your relationship?

I'm definitely my husband's best friend, and while I'm definitely closest with my husband and can share everything with him, I consider another girl my best friend.
I love my husband dearly, but sometimes he just doesn't understand girl venting. There are times when I just need to vent about SOMETHING and want the listener to sympathize. My husband isn't great about doing that. He's a problem solver, so he tries to come up with a solution or analyze my behavior or WHATEVER. So when I need to vent, I go to my girlfriend for that and I consider her my best friend.

Definitely, I don't have many actual friends and neither does he really. We spend the most time with eachother, and neither of us go out with other people on our own. We have a couple that we go out with often but we go together.

Yes and no. We are of course best friends by nature of the fact we are each other's closest confidant and completely transparent in all that we do, think, say, etc.
However, DH has a guy "best friend" that he's grown up with for most of his life. And I have a few close "best friends" that I would do anything for and truly consider my sisters.
We're lucky enough to have both types of "best friends," I guess?

@Mrs. JYW - I agree with that sentiment! You're lucky to have both types of "best friends!" And I agree that this is true for me, that my husband and I are, by default, best friends, but I have other best friends too.

Agreed w/ mrsjyw & Adira-- we're "best friends" but I have a couple of girls who are my BFFs.

He's for sure my best friend. I think it's naturally that way in a lot of relationships because you experience so much together that no one else can really understand.

We definitely are each other's best friends. He has one guy friend he talks to about a lot of stuff that he knows I might not want to hear about but I tell him everything. I've heard some people say that there is no way they could be BFF's with their SO. I don't know how you couldn't.

See, I've always felt like my husband is my husband and my best friend is my best friend. And what I mean by that, is that my husband is the first person who I go to about everything (and him for me), and he's the first person I think of when I want to share something. Also, our lives are intertwined now by virtue of being a family, and there's no denying that closeness and that attachment.
But I've never really considered him my best friend - because my best friend is the woman who's been my best friend since we were in high school. And my husband's best friend is the guy who's been there since college. I guess in a lot of the ways that one would define "best friend" my husband and I are... yet neither of us label each other as that.

I have some close girl friends, but I would definitely call my husband my best friend- and I know he would do the same.
When it comes down to it, there is no one we'd rather spend time with! -

Yes, in the sense that I truly feel like in addition to our romantic relationship, we are wonderful friends, and out of all my friends, I am closest to him. I could spend days on end with him nonstop and never get tired of his company!
Having said that, my DH has a ... particular personality when it comes to some things that doesn't always lend itself to those BFF kind of talks. I'm emotional and I like to overthink things, while he can be very straightforward and even blunt. So sometimes I might want to have a girly BFF chat and he is definitely not the one for that. I need a girl BFF!

i consider my DH my best friend - meaning that he is the one person i would turn to with anything, good or bad, and want to share any experience with him.
but, i do have girl best friends, and he has his best friends from growing up - but i still think that our "friendship" is closer than that of other friends

Absolutely. Not only is he the person I trust the most and the one I turn to first and share everything with but he is the person I have the most fun with. I laugh the hardest with him and find joy in the stupidest, simplest things.

Definitely NOT! There are some things that I just can't talk to my husband with, not because he takes it poorly, but that he's simply not interested. Re-hashing what my mom said to me five days ago for the sixteenth time? Yeah, right. I do go to him for advice, but I also approach others that I trust, and take all of it into consideration before I make my own decision (unless it's a family one, like how to spend our money or when to have kids, b/c obvs his input is the most important).
I think it's because we have vastly different interests. I love to blog, design, and build things. He's not really a fan of all that. He's completely obsessed with hunting and fishing, and that is just my brand of misery. So, his best bud is his go-to fishing/drinking/hunting guy, and my bestie is who I call when one of my blog projects gets picked up by a bigger blog, or my traffic reaches a new high or something. Ok, I'm totally rambling now.
Basically, we love each other as husband and wife, have a great relationship, and enjoy our differences as well as what we have in common. But we're not besties. I have my girls, and he has his buddies. I like having some things to myself, and he does too

My hubby is my buddy. :o) We were the best of friends before we started dating and it continued on into our marriage.

Nope, definitely not. It's just different- kind of Alongfarview said, my husband is my husband, and my best friend is my best friend. I tell my best friend (who happens to be a guy) that I don't need a therapist since I have him, and it's true- I hash stuff out with my best friend in the kind of excruciating detail that would have DH pulling his hair out. It's not that I'm closer to my best friend, it's just a totally different kind of relationship.

In most things yes. But he definitely doesn't understand my pregnant mood swings like when I suddenly start crying because I don't get a joke between him and his buddy!

I always go back and forth on this. I have 4 friends who I tell everything too & I consider them my best friends. They know how to read me & know all my dirt as they have known me for 15+ years. My DH doesn't have the time/history like they do but he loves me unconditionally. He understands that I need my girl time & he understands that they are my go to girls. He has 2 friends who are the same to him. I think it's nice to have someone outside of my DH to vent/talk too as sometimes it is about him or a female just understands the given situation better.
