Besides struggling to keep my diaper bag organized, it's so damn heavy. Probably due to not being organized at the same time...
I need help. Stupidly.
I keep a ton of diapers in there and throw extras in the car in case we end up being out later than expected, wipes, brush/nail clippers, bum cream, extra clothes for accidents, gripe water, tylenol, 2 receiving blankets (one to cover up with when feeding in public), a bib...
I wonder if I just need to buy a bigger bag??

Here's what I kept in my "diaper bag" (I actually just threw it all in my purse) - a travel pack of wipes, 3 diapers, a tiny travel sized container of sudocreme, a nursing cover, a changing pad, and a sleeper in case of accidents. Then I had an "emergency kit" in each car with a full change of clothes, a half dozen diapers, and a full pack of wipes. If I was going to be out all day I'd pack a fuller diaper bag but for running errands, trips to the mall, etc this was always fine. I also always figured that if I got caught without something I could buy it in an emergency.

A bigger bag is an option, but you might be able to make some simple changes!
- I would only keep 2-3 diapers in the bag, and keep a package in the car to restock/for emergencies.
- do you ever use the brush or nail clippers while you're out and about? You might be able to leave those out entirely!
- same with the gripe water and Tylenol. I used to carry them around, but I realized that if she gets sick I can easily drop by a drugstore or (more likely) just go home!
- how many outfits are you carrying around? How many have you actually needed? This is another situation where you could have one in your diaper bag and extras in the car, just in case.

Which bag do you have? I feel like all taht stuff is pretty light, so I would guess most of the weight comes from your bag.
Things I actually need in my diaper bag for my infant:
a few diapers
package of wipes
1 change of clothes
1 burp cloth/bib
nursing cover
And that's it. If she were older, I would maybe include a toy, and a pouch or snack if she were on solids.

@babycanuck: I do what @erinbaderin does. Just basics in the diaper bag, "emergency bag" in the car. Stock up the bag with extras if we are going on an extra long excursion.

@mrsrain: I've been keeping tylenol more often because he's starting to teethe. Gripe water is hit or miss whether I carry it. I usually carry at least 1 short sleeved and 1 long sleeved onesie + 1 pair of pants
@dagret: This does sound like a good idea. I'm going to do that now (pack the big bag to leave in the car and lighten up my carry around bag.)

I pack a lot too, and if we're out for a meal, I got bib, placemat, utensils, water-cup, and a a book to entertain her!
Normally I don't care how heavy it gets since DH carries it. But if I have to deal with her alone, I ended up getting a cute backpack from Target to use as a diaper bag.

I agree with the other posters. I think you are just carrying around more than you need to be!
I keep 2–4 diapers in my diaper bag, a travel package of wipes, one change of clothes, a changing pad, a burp cloth, and our travel formula container. And now that DD is a little older, I've tossed in a thing of puffs.

Can you keep an "emergency" bag in the car? I find that most often if we have a blow out or really fussy baby we are going to end up back at the car anyways. So a lot of that stuff can be left there.

Agreed with @mrsrain: and others. I never needed anything other than diapers, wipes, butt cream, 1 extra onesie or sleeper, a light muslin blanket, and a bib as she got older. I never used nail clippers, brush, or medicine unless we were traveling, so I left that out. I may have just had an easy baby, though!

@babycanuck: Maybe if you get another bag, get one that can be a backpack so you can carry the weight and not have it all on your one shoulder.

@babycanuck: I am the same. Thanks for posting this. I don't even have things I feel like I should in there-like extra clothes for me-I have been puked all over while out and soaked through my shirt, bra, and pants so I had to borrow clothes from a friend-luckily we were in a house.
The emergency car pack is a great idea! I'd skip nail clippers and the brush ash it doesn't seem essential and will clutter up the bag.
