@GreenThumb: current RE suggested Lovenox starting day of transfer---I need to do some googling-do you think that's too late to start it?
nectarine / 2192 posts
@GreenThumb: @endymion4: Why are you doing lovenox? We are adding that this cycle as well as getting RI opinion. I will be adding it since I'm homozygous for MTHFR and have a history of positive lupus anticoagulant.
pear / 1986 posts
@endymion4: Well, I think it probably depends on why you are adding it to your cycle. In my case, there is a small chance of a clotting issue, so it is for helping prevent a health issue for me rather than specifically improving chances of pregnancy (although I'm hoping it has that as an added benefit). That is why I will start it again when I start hormone support. But, I think that the Lovenox acts pretty much immediately in your system, so if you start taking it at transfer, by the time implantation takes place I would think that it would be doing its job. Let me know if you find out anything else with your google search.

@AmeliaBedilia: I have tested with a very low positive three times for anticardiolipin antibodies. So while I don't meet the clinic criteria for antiphospholipid syndrome, I was referred to a hematologist who suggested adding it to any IVF cycle that we go through.
ETA: I'm really interested in what your RI says!

@PurplePumps: I'm just popping in to say I'm so excited for you and wishing you all of the best of luck with this IVF cycle! You have great numbers so far. And don't worry about not getting a day 2 update. I was only given updates after retrieval, and then 1, 3, 5, and 6 days after retrieval. Just try to rest and think positively!

@PurplePumps: just popping by to say that I'm so glad to see your last couple of updates. I've been wondering how you were. I think that not getting a day 2 update is probably a good thing! Please let us know as soon as you get your day 3 update! xoxo

@PurplePumps: My clinics never looked on day 2, they said they didn't want to disturb them any more than they had to. Good luck with tomorrow's fert! xx
@AmeliaBedilia: Oh, it's so hard... I hate that feeling of being left behind, but you're not alone - we've been there. Big hugs as you get through this part. Glad the meds are sorted!

I'll catch up with personal responses soon, this rollerocoaster of a cycle capped off cancellation has really got me out of sorts. I just don't have the energy/strength to do it right now. As an update for you all though, I had a follow up appointment yesterday. I’m switching from antagonist to long Lupron protocol and trying again. I have to wait for AF and then I have to do BC for 2-3 weeks before we can begin again, so likely I won’t do another cycle until around St. Patrick’s day. Starting with 375 IU Follistim and then lowering it to 225 IU when I begin my 225 IU Menopur. I really pushed against the BC with my RE, but in the end I'm just so exhausted with this whole damn fight that I gave in. I'm so worried about being oversuppressed again, and I think that doing BC then normal dose Lupron is going to do it this time too. RE seems to think that the fact that I was on continuous BC for my Endo and then the extra 2 weeks of really strong BC is what suppressed me, and that the short amount of time I'll be on BC is okay. She's more worried about having another dominant follicle; I'm more worried about the fact I only made 2 measurable follicles and that it took me 16 days of stims to make them. I just didn't have the fight in me to insist, being so down from my first cycle and trying not to sob in front of the RE.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@Aqualov: big hugs! While I haven't gone through the same thing, I have felt that I don't have the strength in me to argue. I think I was over suppressed as well but my doc is more concerned about dominant follicle, similar to yours. Sending prayers for a better response. We are here for you!

Whine alert!
Ugh, I am hurting! It's never been so bad after retrieval. I'm so bloated, I feel like there's no room for food in my stomach and I don't really feel hungry. Then when I finally feel hungry, I'm so hungry it hurts!! But apparently, I can't eat anything even remotely sour, I tried to have a kiwi yesterday and felt like I was being stabbed in the stomach from the pain it immediately caused. Even step sends a sharp pain to my mid section so I'm moving so slow, with soft steps, and hunched cause standing straight is too much of a stretch. AAAHHHH!!! Is this normal?? I'm pretty sure I must have a mild case of ohss this time. I can't sleep on my side, any twisting, even a stupid bump in the road HURTS.
// whining over.

@PurplePumps: definitely sounds like OHSS! I just went through a horrible case of it a few weeks ago, even visiting the hospital twice. Dr said to stay in a sitting/upright position even when sleeping (propping yourself up with pillows or on the couch, etc). And drink TONS of fluid. As much as you possibly can. I know it's hard, especially when you aren't peeing much (as was the case with me) but it's the only way to make it go down. Hopefully you find some comfort soon!!
nectarine / 2192 posts
@PurplePumps: that sounds terrible. I'd definitely let your RE know. I'm excited to hear how your embryos are Doing!
pear / 1881 posts
@PurplePumps: oh no! Yes, definitely let your RE know in case they can check you out. Were you planning on doing a fresh transfer? I've been off the grid for a few days, so I'll try to respond to all posts later, but SO glad to hear about your embies so far. You will get an update today, right?

Does anyone know if massage is ok during stims? I have a 90 minute groupon that I texted the masseuse months ago, and she responded today asking when I want to do it. I think it would be relaxing.

@waiting4you: wow, how long did it last for? everything all good now?
I just got the call from my doctor. Of the 7, he thinks 4 looks good and has a good chance and the other 3 are too highly fragmented. A 6 and 8 cell with no frag, a 8 and 9 cell with 10% frag, and then 2 7 cell and a 4 cell 25% frag. We've decided to wait to day 5 for a transfer. I'm so nervous!! Getting past day 3 is all new territory for us!
pear / 1881 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: I thought that I read that you should not do massages as it releases toxins into your blood stream. I would probably research it more prior to doing it.
pear / 1881 posts
@PurplePumps: oh wow! sounds good so far!! Glad that you are making one step further than ever before!
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: @NorthStar: He definitely thinks I have a mild case, but doesn't think it's so bad that we can't do a transfer. He says he hopes that over the next two days it gets better, or at least not worse, and we can proceed. He would rather not do a freeze if there's not that many on day 5 since there is still a 1/20 chance that it doesn't survive the freeze/thaw.

@PurplePumps: Unfortunately it lasted about 2 weeks of complete immobilization other than using the restroom and going to the doctor. At one point I gained about 6lbs in one day. I would definitely start weighing yourself a few times today to see how you do. My dr's instructions were to just stay upright in bed, drink fluid and if you can't pee or it turns dark yellow/brownish or you throw up, to call him and he would call me in to the hospital (which he ended up having to do). Unfortunately it just goes away on it's own. He also did blood work about every day. My estrogen levels were around 4,000 and my progesterone was over 500. He immediately had me stop taking all additional estrogen/progesterone meds. I ended up going in to the hospital to have the fluid drained, though they weren't successful since my bowels were moving around too much and they couldn't risk puncturing them or it would be a serious situation.

@PurplePumps: yea! I've been thinking of you all morning. Are you transferring two? I'm really hoping you get some frozens too.
AFM, halfway done with estradiol. My tracking updated that my meds are at the local post office. they should be delivered today. I'm relieved. My clinic has a monthly support group which is tonight, and I just remembered that one of the nurses is the guest speaker. I'll ask her about the massage.

@AmeliaBedilia: YAY! I'm so glad that your meds should be there today!! When do you start, on Friday? We are going to do this!!
apricot / 344 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: My husband and I have a great massage therapist and she has told us that she will not do any massages on anyone during IVF and during their first trimester.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@NorthStar: thanks. I have ultrasound Friday morning to be sure my cyst is going down but my doc said it is unlikely to cause a problem. Estrace through Thursday and start stims Friday. I'm continuing HGH. Stims will be as long or possibly longer. Egg retrieval 3/9-3/11.
Spoke to RI last night. I really liked him and he seemed to know what he's doing. The downsides: he thinks I will probably need IVIG but does a lot to get insurance to cover it. He recommends lovenox 2 weeks before transfer based on the homozygous mthfr alone, but might increase the dose depending on how high my antiphospholipid antibodies are. He starts prednisone 30 days before transfer. Labs are going to cost $1800, which I can submit to insurance and will hopefully go to my deductible.

@AmeliaBedilia: What a relief that your meds are here! I was so nervous about that even with overnight delivery.
nectarine / 2192 posts
My meds are now at my parents house, which I will pick up tonight. I'm so relieved.

@AmeliaBedilia: Yay!! Awesome. how have your headaches/migraines been? It sounds like you have a lot of people helping you out to make this successful. Sending good luck and baby dust your way!
pear / 1986 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Great news about your meds arriving! And your discussion with the RI sounds really helpful, too. Interesting about starting the prednisone a month before transfer. I am also going to ask my RE about adding steroids to our protocol with the FET. I took medrol for a few days before transfer with the fresh, but that was it. Did you use any steroids during your fresh cycle last time or this time? Also, is the IVIG for the MTHFR or the antiphospholipid antibodies or something else?
@PurplePumps: Take care of yourself! I'm sorry to hear about the OHSS, I had that during my first fresh cycle. But great news about the day 5 transfer and some really good looking embryos! How many will you transfer?
@Aqualov: Thinking of you and glad you checked in! Really hoping that this new protocol does the trick!!
nectarine / 2192 posts
@GreenThumb: I took prednisone 20mg starting the day after retrieval but RI said that was too late. IVIG would be for natural killer cells.
pear / 1986 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Ah right, the NK cells. I have to go back and look at my labs to see if we checked for that. I just keep assuming that we did, but I don't specifically remember. I'm going to push for the steroids earlier in the cycle, too. Do you remember how long did the RI recommend taking them after transfer?
nectarine / 2192 posts
@GreenThumb: til BFN or at least 12 weeks pregnant. I haven't paid as much attention to pregnancy protocols since I feel like I'll never get there. My notes aren't with me but I think he does prednisone 5mg twice a day until transfer, then 10mg twice daily.
pear / 1986 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Thank you! I know, there is so much to keep track of just to get to the , it is awfully difficult to think about anything past that .

I was thinking about having DH take the week off after our next transfer to stay home and take care of me and DD. But he is going to have a crazy April, so I don't think that is going to be possible. I might have my mom help me instead. Definitely not as relaxing, but I really want to try everything possible this time and lifting a 30+ lb toddler all day is just not a good idea.
pear / 1881 posts
@GreenThumb: I hear you - it's hard to know what to do, but you need to relax! I am having the same dilemma. DH's boss wants him to go to Milwaukee the week of March 14th to train in someone down there, which will likely our transfer week. He is going to try and push it out a week, but I don't want to be stressed chasing after an almost 4 year old! Add in that I'm in the midst of tax season, I'm not too happy. I told DH that he needs to tell his boss what is going on. ugh.
nectarine / 2192 posts
@NorthStar: ugh, that sounds super rough with your long drive and tax season. With moving, my drive goes up to 20-25 minutes and that is plenty four times a week! I had meant to ask if you're doings fresh transfer- it sounds like you are.
pear / 1986 posts
@NorthStar: It really is so hard to balance real life with IVF. Especially when no one IRL knows what's up - especially bosses! I really hope your DH's trip does not coincide with your transfer!!
pear / 1881 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: @GreenThumb: I know! I think that he will be accommodating once he knows. I suppose the most important thing is that DH is there to give his sample for the retrieval, huh? Although, I cannot drive myself 2+ hours home after the transfer after being on valium and my parents don't know what is going on. ugh. I'll worry about it later, if I need to. We always figure it out, right?
oh, and yes, the plan is to do a fresh transfer.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@PurplePumps: Looking GOOD! I am excited for a 5-day transfer for you! xx
@GreenThumb: Sounds like a good plan! I had help after my last stim, because chasing an almost-3-yo is exhausting when you're recovering/trying to take it easy.
@AmeliaBedilia: So glad your meds have arrived!!
pear / 1986 posts
Deep breaths... so DH comes home tonight and says he is going to be headed to Switzerland for a week "sometime" in April with a huge smile on his face. Um, I don't need his sample for the FET like @NorthStar: but in all of my 6 transfers, I have never once done a PIO injection myself. Queue a TOTAL freak out! Either my mom is really going to have to step up to the plate (she is a retired nurse, but I'm not sure how comfortable she is going to be giving me injections, not to mention if she would actually be able to come and stay to help out) or I am REALLY going to have to put my big girl pants on! And this potentially really doesn't help with a relaxing week after transfer if he is gone then! I'm pretty sure he will never tell his boss what's going one, so I'm wondering if we should wait until May...
pomegranate / 3809 posts
@GreenThumb: I think we will transfer two... though the though of carrying twins does kind of scare me now. But I'm worried that since I'm not doing genetic testing, that 1 just cutsmy chances in half,
@NorthStar: @GreenThumb: Ugh, work just gets in the way! DH says he has a huge meeting from 10-12 and my transfer is supposed to be at 1pm 2.5 hours away. So he doesnt' want to go. I'm like really?! So you're gonna make me drive 5 hrs round trip on my own to do this? On top of the mild/moderate ohss, I'm feeling feverish and getting chills so bad that I left work early today to pass out at home for like 5 hours, which I never do. I'm hardly in the state of mind to drive 5 hrs on my own.

@purplepumps: hours afger my egg retrieval, my stomach swelled like crazy and took over a week for me to feel somewhat normal again. I thought it was OHSS but doctor says it was because my ovaries are swollen due to high number of eggs retrieved and high level of estrogen. I chugged Gatorade like water to decrease risk of OHSS, weighed myself daily,, and always tried to stay upright even while sleeping. Small meals, and salty foods to help draw out fluids. I remember at one point really craving pickles and polished off a jar by myself within a couple of days. Pickle juice was so refreshingly delicious haha. It took over a week before I was able to stand and walk upright normally, but luckily did not have to have any fluids drained. Hope that helps. I'm so excited for your upcoming 5 day transfer!!
