@Mrs. Pajamas: I'm so sorry. I am an IVF grad and regular lurker. Has your doctor considered any implantation issues? My clinic has been participating in a study where they do an endometrial biopsy before the transfer cycle. The prelim evidence suggests higher success rates afterwards.
Some info in this link http://www.ivf-worldwide.com/IVF-Worldwide-Blog/endometrial-biopsy-improves-implantation-pregnancy-outcome.html

@mrswin: I actually had an endometrial scratch (same as biopsy) in April. I purposely asked for it because of such studies that I have seen. We got a positive on the FET right after!

Thanks all...I'm slowly getting there with moving on. I had a good chat with my RE and we discussed lots of options for next time: PGD, transferring 2 embryos, changing my protocol, etc. But we kept coming back to the fact that there are no red flags as to why things didn't work out so we may have just been unlucky enough to choose the 2 embryos that were abnormal in our batch. We had 8 embryos from my fresh cycle in 2014--one is my DD and 2 were failures. Given the stats for my age 2/8 should be abnormal so we should get a BFP in the next cycle or two. At least that's the hope I'm clinging onto.
@mrswin: thanks so much for the info on the endometrial biopsy. I'll ask my RE about it. Our diagnosis is MFI so we've never considered doing anything with me. She even looked at ultrasound pics from when my DD was conceived and everything looks the same. There was a minor difference in my lining (10mm for my DD's cycle vs. 9mm for the last two) but she said all are well within the range of what should be "enough" for implantation. We'll just have to keep trying!

@Mrs. Pajamas: Sorry about your negative test :(. If you want any more info on it I did the ERA test (http://www.igenomix.com/tests/endometrial-receptivity-test-era/) after my 1st FET was unsuccessful with a PGD tested embryo. It came back as receptive so that wasn't the issue but it was a pretty easy and inexpensive test (relative to FET/IVF cost) if you do decide to do it.
I'm probably a bit jaded about playing the odds since I had 3 MCs in a row getting pregnant naturally (I think the odds of that are like 5%) but FWIW my husband and I agreed that the cost of PGD was totally worth it to lessen the chances of a failed FET. For some reason the failed FET (our 2nd was successful) was probably worse for both of us psychologically than any of my MCs. PGD is obviously not a guarantee for success but it definitely increases the odds quite a bit and I felt a lot more confident if we made it past the first 8 weeks that the baby would be healthy.

@Mrs. Pajamas: Our primary issues was MFI as well but I had low AMH which resulted in a diagnosis of DOR for me on top of pretty significant endometriosis. Since you were successful in making so many embryos I don't think it could hurt to look at other possibilities. My doctor is really into studying optimum uterine conditions for IVF success so she has shared a lot with us during the process

@Mrs. Pajamas: Thinking of you! Sorry this one did not work out, but the odds sound good. If only the emotional roller coaster weren't so horrible...I also was contemplating PGD if we had to do another fresh cycle...

@Mrs. Pajamas: sending big hugs!
I'm on day 3 of stims, day 4 of lupron on the microdose lupron protocol. I'm not sure whether to count it as day 3 or 4. My cyst was getting smaller, and growth hormone arrived, but the "click easy" device is anything but easy, and the bottom came out of the cartridge, leaking some out. DH was able to get some up with a syringe, and we ordered more (enough for this round and the next round). I've asked for a refund since it was defective. The silver lining off starting a day early is I don't have a check til Monday, day 5 of stims. Since I'm already on 300 of follistim and 150 menopur, it's unlikely that they will increase, and we know from past experience that OHSS is very unlikely. I don't mind the shots as much as the frequent appointments and potential bad news at them. I'm more moody on the lupron (surprising since it's such a low dose), but otherwise feeling ok. I'm off work til after retrieval, which is super helpful. My new RE is having me do follistim and menopur in the morning, so I'm getting that out of the way.
In other news, movers are moving the furniture from the old house to the new house on Wednesday. We're trying to move some small stuff out first, and trying to sell some exercise equipment so we don't have to move it. Moving stinks, but this should be our last.

Hi all, I'm new on this thread, so wanted to introduce myself. I've been ttc my 2nd child for 1.5yrs, am now diagnosed with secondary infertility due to male factor. I just met with an RE for the first time and he recommended we go straight to IVF. I have a bunch of labs and an ultrasound of my ovaries coming up soon. I have no clue what about to jump into!

Welcome @Lady Grey! Sorry you have to go through all of this but I can certainly relate. We are MFI-diagnosed as well and also TTC our second. We were diagnosed before my DD was conceived and were told to jump straight to IVF with ICSI. I'm not gonna lie--it's a lot of doctors appointments and poking and prodding--but worth every minute and heartache for what you can achieve! Good luck and ask any questions. These ladies are a wealth of knowledge and support!

@lady grey: Welcome! I'm so sorry you have to be here, but the ladies have provided SO much support in our journey (secondary infertility). We have a 4 year old DD and I am currently almost 6 weeks pregnant after 2 unsuccessful fresh IVF transfers and this successful FET.
We have a lot of resources and definitely check with us on the best places to buy meds, tips in buying them, etc to save as much money as you can (if they are not covered by insurance). I myself have a lot of information that I could provide..

@lady grey: Welcome! Sorry you have to be here, but it's such an awesome group of supportive ladies!
Day 5 of stims here/day 6 of lupron. First vajayjay selfie to look for progress. He counted 6 on the right, 4 on the left, then said 6-10 were responding well, and he was happy. I was hoping for a solid 10, but am trying to be happy that he is happy. I just got the call my estrogen was 288. I'm really happy- Cycle 1 it was 90 on day 5, and 287 on day 7. Cycle 2 it was 47 on day 4, increased to 375 follistim/150 menopur and was 176 on day 6. This cycle I'm taking meds in the morning rather than evening, but still it's a good sign. He moved my appointment from tomorrow to Wednesday, which is good, but of course, that's when the movers come. I have a 7:45 appointment, then movers come at 9:00. Crazy day!
pear / 1881 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: oh my gosh! It sounds so much better this time around. YAY! Moving out your tomorrow appointment is nice, even if it causes issues with the movers. That means that he trusts that you are responding ok. Sending so many prayers that this works for you. Has he given any indication of a retrieval date?

@NorthStar: estimate is 6/27-6/29. We will freeze all in hopes of a surrogate due to my autoimmune issues. We have a potential- we are hoping she says yes, that her insurance is decent, and passes the medical evaluation (I expect she will). I am so happy for you!!!!!!

@AmeliaBedilia: Thank you! Your retrieval will be here before you know it! Keep drinking lots of water! I'm sure with the move that it's difficult to keep eating and drinking healthy. Hang in there.. you are getting close

@lady grey: welcome and as the others mentioned so sorry that you're here but know that this is such a supportive group of ladies.
Cd3 testing today was great and I've been instructed to begin stimming tonight. Let the fun begin
This will be my first time taking menopur. Let's hope I don't mess this up. It seems simple enough, but you never know.
pear / 1881 posts
@LoveHope: Good luck starting! Menopur is pretty easy, but after I mix it, I do let it sit a few minutes prior to injection. It was the only one that I took that really burned going in. Luckily, the needle is super tiny. I know that some ladies suggested icing before that injection.
kiwi / 689 posts
@NorthStar: Yes, I've read that it does urn so I will certainly be icing. I'm sure after a few days, I'll be a pro.
How are you feeling?
pear / 1881 posts
@LoveHope: Yeah, you will catch on in no time! I'm actually feeling completely normal, which freaks me out. Might be time to pee on another stick! lol
honeydew / 7463 posts
@LoveHope: definitely ice before menopur! It was the only one that burned for me and the only one I iced before and after! But after the first couple it's nbd!

@Mrs. Pajamas, @NorthStar, @LoveHope, @AmeliaBedilia, thanks all! I am sure I will have loooots of questions to ask you once things get rolling. I just spent an hour on the phone with my insurance company.

So I managed with Menopur last night. It wasn't too bad. I had to take two vials of Menopur and 300 units of Follistim. You ladies were right when you said Menopur burns. Yikes!
When I did IUI, I began feeling some pressure by day 7. How early do you start feeling it with this much of the meds? Just curious.
pear / 1881 posts
@LoveHope: Good job getting through it! For the follistim, did they teach you how to use the overfill (remainder of the vial)?
I was actually fine until later on in the cycle. Unfortunately, I didn't respond very well my first cycle so felt more normal then an IUI cycle (that should have tipped me off that something was up). For my second round, I was more uncomfortable after maybe 8 or 9 days, but it wasn't unbearable..
When is your first ultrasound check?
kiwi / 689 posts
@NorthStar: no, they didn't mention anything. I did see there was a little left but the vial is 300 units and I was supposed to inject the entire thing.
Funny, I passed out completely 15 minutes after taking the meds. Lol
I go in Thursday for a scan and bloodwork.
honeydew / 7463 posts
@LoveHope: I didn't feel much pressure until a day or two before retrieval. I'm sure I felt SOMETHING before that, but I felt uncomfortable right before retrieval. I remember walking around my office and feeling my ovaries bouncing with me. Lol.
pear / 1881 posts
ok - So each box of follistim actually includes 420 IU versus 300IU. So, if you use the overfill/remainder, you can use fewer boxes (I knew this ahead of time and therefore, purchased 2-3 fewer boxes, which saved me a ton a money). So, assuming you did one shot of 300IU last night, you would have approx 120IU left in the vial. Tonight, you would put that remainder vial in your pen before dialing the pen up to 300. Give yourself a shot. The pen will only go as far as there is meds in the vial. Then, put in a new vial (without touching the dialing portion of the pen) and continue to push down to get the remainder of your dose. Yes, it sucks to do two shots, but you will use much less meds this way.
I wish that more women knew this ahead of time and therefore, saved money when buying meds. I don't understand why the nurses don't tell everyone this up front.
ETA - I would always write on the box how much in meds I used if I had a partial vial in there. Then, I had an idea if or when I would run out of meds (so that I had time to order another box). It also helped me in case I was traveling and had to bring some boxes with me..
kiwi / 689 posts
@NorthStar: It Would have been great if they would have told me this. I guess it's not their money so who gives a hoot.
Thanks for letting me know. I will certainly use up the last of it tonight.

Anyone here have male factor infertility and all their own tests come out normal? That's our situation. My RE said we should go straight to ivf, but I just found out dh'S urologist thinks we should try iuis...
kiwi / 689 posts
@NorthStar: This is why this board rocks! So much valuable information from some awesome ladies!
kiwi / 689 posts
@lady grey: Unfortunately, we were labeled unexplained. DH did have two sa's done in which one was normal and one was slightly abnormal according to my clinic's standards. We did 4 iui's in which all were unsuccessful. I have heard that Iui's are ideal for couples with a make factor. its just one of those things where you just don't know.
kiwi / 689 posts
Is it safe to exercise this week while stimming? My nurse didn't say anything to me about it, but I've read where some people were told not to. I always exercised while stimming for IUI.
pear / 1881 posts
@LoveHope: i wouldn't. i was told not to and it's because you don't want to jostle the ovaries, which could lead them to twist and cause ovarian torsion. I'm sure walking or light yoga would be fine, but nothing high impact. I'm curious to see what the other ladies say.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@lady grey: According to my RE, both me and my husband were normal. But my husband's morphology was definitely on the lower side. We did two IUIs and then moved to IVF which was successful at the FET stage. I've heard that IUI is great if the only issue is slow sperm because IUI's will put the sperm in the place it needs to be to get with the egg. But if there's other issues, then IVF with ICSI would be best. Good luck with whatever you decide! Its such a tough journey, but you can do it!
@LoveHope: I exercised while stimming, but not after the transfer, obviously. I can imagine what @NorthStar: said about ovarian torsion to be certainly an issue. At some point, you yourself just might feel too uncomfortable to do anything, including walking. Listen to your doctors and trust your gut instinct. And do whatever you think is best and that won't cause you regret later on.
@NorthStar: How are you doing??
pear / 1881 posts
@agold: I'm doing ok. I have no real symptoms yet. I am tired, but not exhausted. Plus, I have a 4 year old, so it really could be just her causing me to be tired The cramping has lessened up and my ultrasound is on the 30th. I'm just trying to keep as busy as I can so that I don't think about it because I seriously don't feel pregnant at all. But, it is early.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@NorthStar: Glad to hear you are doing good! I never felt pregnant at all. And for sure your 4 year old could be making you tired! I'm tired just thinking about a 4 year old!
kiwi / 702 posts
@Lady Grey I agree with @agold said about MFI diagnosis. My DH has low morphology and motility and so IVF with ICSI is our only option. But it seems like lots of people do IUIs with other types of MFI.
@Lovehope I also agree with @agold on this. I would listen to your body and how you feel. I exercised but maybe with a little less intensity when stimming and then backed off of weights anything high intensity during the 2ww of my successful IVF cycle 2 years ago. I would also go with what you have been doing the last year or so. Definitely don't add anything. Personally exercise is necessary for my sanity so I couldn't do nothing.
kiwi / 501 posts
@Mrs. Pajamas: I know I'm late to say this, but I'm so sorry! Prayers for you as you move forward!
@LoveHope: That's so awesome that you have started stimming! Wishing you all the best! My doc did recommend to take it easy during the entire cycle and not workout. He said some light activity would be fine. Maybe you should ask your doctor/nurse and do whatever they recommend?
@NorthStar: So glad to hear you are doing well! When is your next U/S?
AFM, I had my trial transfer today. Everything looks good! I'm getting excited! I stop BC on Sunday and then go in for my baseline on Wednesday. DH and I will learn how to do the injections then too! Praying for no cysts! It's getting so close now!!
persimmon / 1132 posts
@LoveHope: Exciting that you are stimming! I agree with the others about taking it easy. I felt "full" pretty quickly and also my E kept going up and up, so I took it easy throughout my entire IVF cycle. Twisting ovaries are a real thing, I have learned!
@NorthStar: Thinking of you as the days get closer to your first u/s! I had morning hunger rather than morning sickness, and I was tired. Eventually I got queasy, but I never really felt bad. Let's hope it just a good indication of an easy pregnancy!
@lady grey: Hey, sorry you are in this boat! My DH was diagnosed with severe MFI -- low numbers across the board. Sperm count was never more than 5 million which was the major issue. My diagnostics came back normal for my age (I was 39 at the time so borderline high FSH, but everything else normal. We got pregnant on a freeze-all FET, so I'm pretty sure we could've avoided IVF if not for the MFI, but who knows... as @agold pointed out, the test results can only tell you so much!
So we were advised to go straight to IVF/ICSI without even given the option of IUIs. We were told the sperm count numbers were too low for IUIs . I think I remember that somewhere in the 10 million range, IUI can be an option. Anyway, DH's urologist agreed with the RE in our case. I remember feeling so shocked that we weren't even given an option of even Clomid or IUIs or surgery or anything to improve his numbers -- going right to the big guns of IVF/ICSI was kind of scary (not to mention expensive!). In the end, we went with the RE's recommendations to do IVF. and the initial forecast we got based on those initial tests were pretty much how things turned out. I will say that if I was 10-15 years younger, we may have been recommended to do and opted to do a less intensive treatment (more time for trial and error), but time just wasn't on our side.
@Winnie13: Yay for the TT and making progress! You've got this!
@AmeliaBedilia: Good luck at your scan (and your movers) tomorrow! So great to hear that things are progressing so well this time! In some ways, maybe your move happening now is a blessing in disguise. Distraction and keeping busy helps with ups and downs of this journey.
