I'm having a frustrating day. Last scan showed 6 on right, 4 on left. He said some have jumped out ahead, and it is now 2-3 on the right, 4 on the left. He said the others might catch up, but he's guessing 6-7 eggs. He wasn't so disappointed, and had low expectations for me, and I'm doing better than he expected. He also reminded me we are banking, so each cycle doesn't matter as much. Estrogen was 393, up from 288 2 days ago. I'm feeling very disappointed.
The meds are making me more irritable than usual, and DH and I had a heck of a time last night trying to decide where all the furniture will go since the movers were coming today.
I'm also having frustrations with the movers, who are currently unloading furniture into the new house. They damaged some shelves and couldn't get them up the stairs. (They were shelves I was contemplating leaving, but still frustrated.) I asked if I needed to take the elliptical apart, they said no. I told them to let me know ASAP if it changed so I could take it apart. At the very end they said yes, but I wasn't about to do it while they sit around getting paid by the hour. Then they got lost after I gave directions TWICE, and that it's super easy to find. Then they start putting furniture in the wrong room after I told them and gave them a list of where things went. They also wanted to oo and ahh over my shower, which is in the bathroom which they didn't even need to go into.
I don't know how much of my frustrations are the meds, the disappointment that I was hoping for 10 eggs (or more) so we wouldn't have to keep doing this, that I'm tired since my appointment was early, that the movers aren't doing a good job (we've always had good work done by this company so I wasn't expecting this) or that moving sucks.
Next check is Friday afternoon.

This is random but wondering if anyone experienced stomach upset/really off taste buds in or after/between cycles? I have been really stressed obviously but thinking it could also be my body's reaction to all the extra hormones from 2 back to back FET cycles? I'm feeling so much better emotionally this week but nothing tastes right and it's very frustrating--I LOVE food. Come back taste buds!!

@AmeliaBedilia ugh what a nightmare. Moving sucks big time and you are going through SO much right now. Can you let DH deal with the furniture/movers and just take a short break from everything? Even if it's just a few hours where you get to do whatever you want and not worry about IVF/moving it will be so restorative to the soul. A pedicure? Nice walk? Yoga class? Ice cream? Lunch with a good friend? Trashy TV? You deserve a break girl. So sorry and keep venting for sure...

@Mrs. Pajamas: Thanks. I have been getting full more easily, but that started with the prednisone I've been on for 3 months (we think my low AMH is due to autoimmune issues), but I haven't noticed much difference with food. Probably just a little more nausea than normal.
I'm trying to let it go, and afterward, we will complain to the company and see how they respond. Once they leave, I'm going to meditate, possibly nap, and watch trashy TV.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: Trashy TV sounds like a plan. Moving is SO stressful!
persimmon / 1132 posts
@AmeliaBedilia: I think it's good that your RE has pretty modest expectations and gave you some good perspective about the banking. I agree with @Mrs.Pajamas and @jaguar: Moving is hard enough as it is. Trashy TV all the way!
@Mrs. Pajamas: I did when on Lupron! At least I assume it was the Lupron. I was on it for 2 weeks, then a very low Lupron throughout most of stimming. I basically lost almost all enjoyment of flavor especially for those first two weeks. My favorite foods were just mush in my mouth. It was weird. It came back as soon as Lupron was over (not long before the trigger).

I just had an interesting/sobering conversation with my acupuncturist who is adamant we do PGD on our remaining frozen embryos. Has anyone on this thread or anyone you know had 2 (or more) successful pregnancies from one batch of embryos (ie you did one fresh cycle and had more than one successful pregnancy with a combination of fresh and frozen cycles)?
pear / 1881 posts
@Mrs. Pajamas: I don't have any advice, but how many embryos do you have left? Depending upon how many, it just seems like an expensive thing to do, but I also understand the frustration of cycles not working.
kiwi / 702 posts
Yeah it's such a tough issue @Northstar. We had 8 5 day blasts from our fresh cycle in 2014. One is my daughter, 2 were failed FETs this year and we have 5 frozen left. My RE says statistically speaking 75% should be good. What my acupuncturist keeps reminding me though is that without IVF a woman naturally produces 1, maybe 2 good eggs in a cycle so the likelihood of my producing 8 good eggs even though they fertilized normally, etc. is crazy. I agree. Even 75% seems crazy at this point. It's so expensive but I'm starting to think the heartache is more damaging than the expense. On the other hand before this conversation today my thought was that even if we did PGD there's no guarantee for a BFP or a child so what's the point? Ugh this is so hard....any advice/anecdotes are much appreciated!

I had bloodwork and an u/s today and looks like I have 11 follicles all together. Estrogen however is a bit on the low side so they are increasing my Menopur dosage. Has this happened to anyone? Is the estrogen being low on day 3 not a good thing? The nurse said it was fine but sometimes I feel they don't want to worry us.
persimmon / 1132 posts
@Mrs. Pajamas: I agree about the heartache being so damaging and something to take into consideration in this process. Hopefully they will respond because I think there are girls on here with consecutive pregnancies with eggs from the same retrieval...and sure, there are girls who had twins or more, too.
I don't think I'm able to fully respond to everything you're going through, but I can say that my RE said we could expect a 40% success rate with my two frozen embies. Scary odds when there are only two. That was based on my age alone. I read those odds in scientific papers, too, for girls my age so it seemed like my RE wasn't pulling it out of thin air. Anyway, they transferred both and one stuck ... so the odds were pretty much accurate for us.
Based on what other girls here experience, though, it seems like some REs are super positive in their forecasting and some seem more modest. I hated when my RE kept driving home my age (we were doing IVF for MFI, gosh darnit!) but in the end, their modest projections panned out. It doesn't always work like that for girls on here and I'm wondering if you're RE is just overly optimistic with his 75%. What's that based on?
On the other hand, your acupuncturist is not an RE. I'm not surprised your acu is adamant (mine was too! she said don't do IVF! too bad!) but I don't know if I would take his/her opinion too much to heart either, though I know you were already thinking about PGD.
Everyone has an opinion and that can be deceptively hard to manage. Especially now! Once the dust settles and you find some good information to base your decision on, I believe you'll know what's best for you.
grapefruit / 4045 posts
@Mrs. Pajamas: I only ended up with 5 embryos and after using them all in a fresh cycle and a subsequent FET, only one of those embryos progressed to growing into a baby. (Although we feel we doomed the two used in the fresh cycle by using them in a fresh cycle, and we also suspect another tried his/her best during the FET but was lost around week 6.) My first thought in response to your question is along the lines of what @Amorini: said, your acupuncturist isn't an RE, or an MD or a DO, or even a nurse, so I wouldn't give much weight to his/her opinion. Talk to your RE and see what he suggests. I find PGD testing to be so expensive so unless you are looking for some specific genetic issue that you want to avoid, then I don't know if its worth the cost. But if the cost isn't an issue for you, and you'd rather avoid the stress of a FET not working out, then go ahead with it. But best of luck to you. All of the IVF-related decisions that us girls have to make are so tough time wise, financially and emotionally.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@Mrs. Pajamas: I can only weigh in on the cycles I have had - but mine never gave me % outcomes on success. They DID say to expect pregnancies within 3 IVF fresh cycles - and we got DD after 2 fresh, so I guess we fell within that. This pregnancy was after another 3 fresh stims, so again, we sort of fit that.
IVF #1 - fresh BFN, no frosties.
IVF #2 - fresh BFP (DD-3 years!), frozen BFP (11 wk m/c), frozen BFP (6 week m/c)
IVF #3 - all BFNs.
IVF #4 - all BFNs.
IVF #5 - frozen BFP (6 week m/c), frozen BFP (currently 24 weeks) .. we have 6 frozen day 4's remaining.
pear / 1986 posts
@Mrs. Pajamas: I am really sorry you are in this position . And I'm not sure what advice I have to offer, but I can also give you my stats. I will say I never expected to have to do so many transfers.
IVF #1 - fresh BFN (1 embryo), FET #1 DD (2 embryos), FET #2 CP (2 embryos), FET #3 BFN (2 embryos), FET #4 CP (3 embryos) - we had 1 frozen embryo left after all this, but chose not to use it.
IVF #2 - fresh CP (1 embryo), FET #1 currently 13 weeks pregnant with 1 (2 embryos - vanishing twin), 1 frozen embryo left
So, I did two fresh cycles, 7 total transfers, 14 embryos used, 2 singleton pregnancies, 2 frozen left over. Not at all what I expected with a tubal issue (no known hormone problems for me), and male factor - very low morphology, which we understood that IVF w/ ICSI would solve.
We asked about doing testing on the frozen embryos along the way (3 different REs), but none really felt it was warranted because karyotyping for both DH and I came back normal, so we weren't passing along a genetic issue. Now that isn't to say there weren't chromosomal problems with the embryos. Also, we looked for implantation issues with an endometrial biopsy, but that also came back fine. For me, age could have been a factor - I was 34 the 1st fresh and 37 the 2nd - so at least half of my eggs might have just been abnormal to begin with. Still seems crazy to only have 2 babies from 14 good-to-high quality embryos.
I agree to consult closely with your RE and perhaps even get a second opinion with another RE if you can before making any decisions.
persimmon / 1114 posts
@Mrs. Pajamas: I'm so sorry you are going through this. Here's my experience:
Ivf #1 - day 3 transfer 2, 1 took (ds)
Froze 3 day 5 blasts- told they were excellent quality
FET #1 - transfer 1, bfn
FET #2 - transfer 2, blighted ovum
Ivf #2 - freeze all (5) at day 3 bc dr felt they looked "average at best" and gave me a 20% chance of any working
FET #3 - transfer 2, 1 took (ds2)
So I feel like there is no rhyme or reason really to how it works. With my "least promising" embryos I had success. But I agree with others about talking it through with your doctor. I feel like so much has to do with placement/lining versus perfect quality. Lots of luck to you!

Hey ladies. I'm on day 4 of stims and am feeling horrible. Fun!
Also, I have a bartholin cyst growing which will become quite painful. For those that don't know what a bartholin cyst is its a cyst that forms in the bartholin gland located near the entrance of the vagina. These are extremely painful. Now if this thing gets bigger, I don't know how easy my monitoring appointments will be. I'm thinking I'm going to let my nurse know and maybe she could give me some antibiotics. This could not have come at a better time
persimmon / 1114 posts
@LoveHope: ugh those cysts are the worst! I used to get them frequently. I Am sure you already know, but hot baths were the only way I would get some relief. Hope it passed quickly.

@bloved: Yes, I'm trying to do that as often. I've been soaking in Epsom salt as well.

Thanks so much to everyone for your support and sharing your stories. This whole process has been a good reality check on my control-loving personality. We decided to go forward with PGD on our remaining frosties--the cost will pay for itself if it saves us some heartache. We have 90% insurance coverage for everything else. I'm still waiting to hear back from our clinic but at this point I don't think getting a second opinion seems worth it. I'm a scientist and I must say the "science" of fertility is so aggravating--it makes no sense! This waiting around is really the worst.
@Lovehope ouch I'm so sorry about the cyst. I really hope your nurse can offer some relief
@AmeliaBedilia how are things going with the movers? When is your retrieval? Hoping for the best for you with everything!
nectarine / 2192 posts
@LoveHope: ugh, that is terrible timing! Hope the cyst improves.
@Mrs. Pajamas: movers are done, but I need to send the company an email complaining. The whole thing makes my blood boil, so I might wait to do it after retrieval. Hopefully, a week isn't too late to complain.
My ultrasound still showed only 6-7 follicles responding. 5 are 15-19.8, 1 is 13.6, 1 is 11.7 (I think). Next appointment is Sunday morning at 8:00. My RE is doing a lecture out of town on Saturday and gets back Sunday evening. A nurse is going to do the measurements, and send him all the info. Likely trigger Sunday night with retrieval Tuesday morning. I'm praying the two smaller ones catch up well. It also means that we almost certainly will need to do another cycle. I asked the nurse but not the RE how soon we could do the next cycle, and she said they do a month break, so early-mid August. My new job starts 8/22, so I really want to get it done before then. I'm a little nervous whether my RE will agree and we will be able to get it all done in time.

Hi Iam not sure if Iam on the right board .
Iam 33 year old ,MFI(low sperm). I had fresh IVF on March which resulted in 5 good quality embryos. We transferred 1 and froze 4. It was a failure . I got my periods on 9dp5dt. I had a FET transfer on June 14, we transferred two I took hot on 9dp5dt which was positive . Had another hpt on 10dp5dt (june24) which came positive . I gave blood test and waiting for results .
Hope this one sticks . Iam really nervous and happy to see you guys supporting each other .

@AmeliaBedilia: Wishing you luck for the retrieval this week!!! Did you end up triggering last night?

I had a monitoring session today and things are not looking great for me. I'm not responding well to the medications. Dr says I'm on the max dosage and for a 31 year old, I'm not responding as well as I should. We will see how monitoring goes Wednesday and if I don't have at least 3-4 eggs, they will cancel my cycle.
I'm hoping that I'm just responding slowly and things will turn around.
pomegranate / 3764 posts
@LoveHope: I hope they don't cancel! My best cycle so far I only had 4 eggs at monitoring, 3 eggs retrieved and ONE of those was my little girl. *hugs*
kiwi / 689 posts
@jaguar: That makes me feel so much better. I'm really hoping it doesn't get cancelled either. I'm on my 8th day of stims and estrogen was only 259.

The RE called me and my estrogen went up. It's now 550. That's a good sign- at least the meds are working (really slowly). I'm going to keep stimming with Follistim, Menopur, and Ganirelix tonight and tomorrow night and then back to get checked Friday morning. If all goes well, ER will be on Sunday. Is 11 days on stims too much time? The bad thing is I ran out of meds so I have to order and there's a shortage of Follistim nationwide. The nurse is seeing if they have any samples for me to get me one more day.
pear / 1881 posts
@LoveHope: YAY!! No, 11 days of stims is very normal. I think that was how long I went with both of my cycles. I find it so odd that there is a shortage of Follistim. I wonder why that is?
kiwi / 689 posts
@NorthStar: I have no idea why. My pharmacy only had a total of 600 units and they gave it to me yesterday.

@LoveHope: I think I stimmed for 11 days, too! Great to hear about your jump in E2! Sending good thoughts your way.
@AmeliaBedilia: Thinking about you! Hope ER went well on Tuesday.
@Janny: Yay for your BFP! Congrats! Good luck on Friday!

Wondering if it's okay if I join in? I've been reading HelloBee since before we had our first and I've been reading along more on these boards recently as it looked like we were headed towards IVF.) We'll be starting IVF this summer (probably have to skip July - so bummed) so I'm a super newbie to all of this - but I am in awe of all of the support you offer each other. The one thing is - I won't be the one going through IVF. It will be my wife. So not sure this is the right place, but it's really the only place I've found a little background - I carried out DS (unmediated IUI) who is about to be 3. We started the process for #2 in January 2015 with my wife as the carrier. We recently moved to clomid and medicated IUIs but are now ending that for IVF. It's been hard to find a support system (besides my incredible September mommies from DS) especially since lots of people just think i should try. I don't think people understand how badly she (we!) want her to be able to carry our next one. (Plus who knows if I'd have it any easier this time around) Anyways, sorry for the super long post, but just wanted to say hi, ask if it's okay if I join and let you all know how much I am pulling for all of you. I am so in awe of your strength and the support you offer each other.

@MissKabers: What a journey for you guys! I have friends who have wanted each partner to carry their children, so totally understand where you're coming from - but definitely here to help out with any advice for either of you guys! x
