@yellowbeach: exciting! Were those the two “best” ones? Or how did you choose?

@LAZB: yep those two looked the best per the embryologist. I just went with what they recommended.

Well from 24 we are down to 12. 20 were mature and then of those, 12 fertilized normally. I’ll get an update on Sunday with what’s going on!

  16. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@Marfi: While it sucks to take a 50% hit, fortunately you started out high and 12 is a great # to have in contention on Day 1. Fingers crossed for a good report Sunday!

@Marfi: How are you holding up during the wait?

  18. Marfi

    clementine / 794 posts

@yellowbeach: Just keeping busy! Hubs is leaving for a business trip tomorrow so we are trying to get everything sorted before he leaves!

Got the call about how they are looking on day 3 and all 12 are still going strong! They aren't going to freeze any at day 3 this time, we're just going to go to day 5 with all of them and see what happens!

The embryologist said it's pretty common to lose 50% between day 3 and 5 so hopefully we will end up with 6 to freeze which would be great! We lost two so we're ending up with more than we would have had before.

@Marfi: Any news on your embabies???

AFM, BFN this morning (well, squinter but lighter than yesterday, so just trigger). I called the other big IVF group in town this morning to discuss a second opinion consultation and possibly transferring my care there. Unfortunately it seems they were bought out by Shady grove and now accept no outside embryos. They would want us to do a whole new retrieval with them and won't even sit down with us without that. Pisses me off. They just want the $$$. Emailed my RE to see if I can do my beta tomorrow like lasy cycle and asked him a bunch of questions about ReceptivaDx, Lucus Medicus and other stuff. So now he thinks (well, knows) that I am that crazy desperate patient that's out there Googling everything on the internet (pet peeve as a physician). Oh well. Can't just sit here and do nothing, or do the same thing and expect a different result.

@yellowbeach: Not til tomorrow unfortunately! They will send me an email with the final results!

    pomegranate / 3904 posts

@yellowbeach: ugh, I’m sorry. As for googling, I think it’s important to be informed as a patient, and with you being a doctor, of course you are going to research everything!

Ugh, I just found out that a big bonus trip for my husband will be taking place April 23, which will be right around when I’d be giving birth if my transfer works. It’s an all expense paid trip for all producers over a certain amount, and it’s a huge honor to get to go. It’s at a super ritzy location, the women all get spa days and the men get golf days, and they have nice dinners and cocktail parties. I’m considering pushing back transfer one more month so I can go, but I hate that I would have to push back again!
If we do transfer this month, I am supposed to stop bcp next Monday and it will be go time!

Ok, slightly better news. Called the IVF clinic at my medical school back home to set up a 2nd opinion consultation. They had a cancellation and I'm seeing them tomorrow at 1:30pm. They happened to have created the first IVF baby in the US, and claim to tackle the most challenging of cases (yep that's me!)...

So there's that little ray of hope.

I got my final embryo report today! We have 5 frozen! 2 are perfect, 2 are almost perfect, and 1 is fair. We’re planning on having 1 (maybe 2) more babies so we should be all good with this retrieval (barring any malfunction like last time)!

Now to wait for AF to show! *taps fingers on desk impatiently*

So I had my second opinion visit today.

They took a lot of time looking at my records. She immediately was shocked I hadn't done an ERA. Said she would have done it after the second failed FET with PGS normal embryos. It's a test I had asked my doctor about but he doesn't believe in it. But I think we are going to do the ERA with the new clinic and see if that might be the issue then decide from there.

@yellowbeach: I'm so sorry this transfer didn't work out for you. I'm glad you got a second opinion. You'll do a medicated ERA, right? Did she bring up adding any auto immune meds?

  27. Mrs Lavender

    apricot / 302 posts

@LAZB: Ugh, that stinks! We missed my husbands all expenses paid company trip last year. We had our 1st failed FET and decided we have waited way too long to not try again right away. So we did our second transfer and missed the trip. Then that failed, we could have gone, oh well. My EST due date is in March so we will miss this year too! It sucks but I'd much rather have a babe in my arms. However, if waiting 1 month means you could go.... eh, I may just do that. Did you decide!?

  28. LAZB

    pomegranate / 3904 posts

@Mrs Lavender: I’m considering pushing back a week or two (just taking bcp a little extra) because I’d be like 33 weeks, so I think I’d be ok. I don’t know! I’d ask my doc, but she switched practices and no longer covered by insurance, so I need to find a new one, and since I’m not even pregnant yet, I don’t know that I could get an appointment very quickly. The earliest I’ve deliverers was my first at 35+4, but I’ve taken progesterone shots with the others and they’ve come a little later

    Ok ladies opinions please...

As I posted, had my second opinion visit yesterday and we are proceeding with an ERA test. I checked with my current RE's office and his partner can do the ERA if we want to (my RE doesn't believe in them and therefore doesn't have much experience in doing them). Would you do the ERA through your current doctor who knows you, has all your records and importantly is IN NETWORK 100% coverage for services and medications...

    or

Do the ERA with the 2nd opinion doctor (excellent reputation). It was her idea to do it after all, plus I went to her for a reason (things had stalled and started to feel unheard at current RE)... BUT she'll be 100% out of pocket (probably an extra $2000 for the ERA test), plus is a 1-2 hour drive away, depending on traffic and time of day.

It's certainly easier and cheaper to stay with our current clinic, but is it rude or unwise to not do it at the 2nd opinion practice with fresh eyes?

  30. PurplePumps

    pomegranate / 3809 posts

@yellowbeach: The ERA is really just an endometrial biopsy, a quick scrape of your lining at specific time. My out of state RE suggested that my OB could do it if I wanted it done locally, but I ultimately drove the 4 hours one way to have my RE do it. But $ wasnt a factor cause it was covered either way. For 2k, I'd probably stick with my in network doc for the coverage, and I'm sure 2nd opinion doc would understand that. However, would your current RE know how to interpret the results and what to do if there's an abnormal result? Would second opinion RE provide you feedback if you brought the results to them if current RE doesnt know what to do, or if you want a second opinion again?

  31. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@PurplePumps: All good considerations. I’m not 100% sure my current RE (older and more conservative) would know what to do with the results, but I know his partner (3-5 years out of Fellowship) would. I would imagine the 2nd opinion doc would be willing to interpret and create a protocol based on ERA results, even if done elsewhere. I told her that Shady Grove said they wouldn’t work with outside embryos and she balked at that. Said she’d help us with whatever aspects of the process we needed. So I’m thinking ERA with my REs partner. Thx!

AF showed yesterday! I'll call in tomorrow and get an estimated transfer date, I'm guessing it'll be the last week of the month!

@yellowbeach: Was away for a week but catching up and what a roller coaster for you. I would definitely stick with your RE's office and have the partner do the analysis. From what I understand it's nothing too complicated and good lord, you need some convenience in your life with all you're juggling! Stick with your gut though, you know your body an your RE best. Good luck mama! I hope you get some answers soon.

  34. yellowbeach

    nectarine / 2648 posts

@Mrs. Pajamas: Thanks lady. That was my sense too - that convenience and budget were legitimate considerations all things created equal. Took my first estrace today and have an Ultrasound a week from today to check lining.

Went to the RE for my first US and estrogen level for this ERA cycle. I was a little annoyed bc he jokingly mentioned that the test would come back >24 hrs pre or post receptive automatically and then the company would recommend a repeat ($$$). He just really believes there isn't much evidence for the ERA and it's taking money from people who are financially taxed already. He might be right, and I acknowledge that, but I need something I can try before calling it quits.

On the bright side though, estrogen is 260 and lining is already 10mm, so we are on track and going to stay the course. Repeat US and estrogen level Monday with a target biopsy date of 9/3.

@Marfi: Are you getting excited for your upcoming transfer? How have your lining checks been going?

  39. Marfi

    clementine / 794 posts

@yellowbeach: I'm doing well, the past couple of weeks have gone super slow! My protocol only has one lining check, which is tomorrow morning, bright and early at 7 am! I'll get my finalized transfer date after that appointment! I can't wait to find out for sure when the transfer will be!

Whelp, my cycle was cancelled due to fluid and lack of a trilaminar lining. Onward to September! It would figure, my ER cycle in June was cancelled then happened in July now my FET in August is cancelled and will (hopefully) happen in September.
