@twodoghouse: I'm feeling pretty good. This weekend I had a total breakdown. I just couldn't do anymore shots! But then we got good news at our appointment. It's been an emotional roller coaster. Physically I've been ok. I got this really weird full/achy feeling from my waist down. That's typical, but really strange! You have that to look forward to!

Thanks everyone for the good wishes! I check in at 8:00 tomorrow and then the procedure is at 9:00. It's getting real now!

    @twodoghouse: thanks!

The ET went well. I had a slight panic attack when they put the iv in, but other than that it was fine. They got 15 eggs!!! I'm at home now resting. I'll update tomorrow when we get the fertilization report. Thanks everyone for the support. This community is awesome!

I just got the fertilization report. Out of the 15 eggs that were retrieved, 11 were mature. 9 of those fertilized!!!! I am very happy with this number.

They asked me if we wanted to do the genetic testing. We've been very torn on this. Is anyone here looking into genetic testing or done it? We said yes, since we have so many, but I'm still not 100% sure that is the right decision.

@justdarling: fantastic!! We debated testing since my husband has cystic fibrosis. We decided against it because it would reduce some options and was going to take longer.

@brownie: Thanks for your input. My RE only does frozen transfers, so it won't take any additional time. As it is, we won't do the transfer until late September. I am really worried that none of them will be viable, but I guess we would figure out eventually even if we didn't do the testing.

@justdarling: Congrats on the 9 fertilized eggs! I know it's a hard decision to make about the genetic testing. I've been making my way through the testing now that I'm pregnant and it's still hard to handle the results. So I guess I'm just adding a little point of view that if you test now or later, it can be a lot to process. So maybe consider if you feel like you can handle more details to think about before the transfer, or if you would rather make it into your successful pregnancy and then handle anything that may come your way.

@justdarling: 9 fertilized eggs sounds great! We are not doing any sort of testing because we didn't want to delay egg transfer (I know that's not an issue for you). Also, we are paying everything out of pocket and the testing added a lot of additional expense.

@brownie: Did you have your FET this week? How are you doing?

  22. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

@twodoghouse: We are out of pocket too, which sucks! This is expensive! We decided to go for the testing since we have so many. How are the stims going? Do you have a tentative date for the ER?

@twodoghouse: Yes, yesterday. Currently hanging out on bed rest until tomorrow. Crossing my fingers and hoping. Pregnancy test scheduled for the 25th.

@justdarling: Stims are going well. I've done Follistim the last two nights and tonight I add in Menopur. Everything's been going fine except that I am an emotional wreck! This morning I start crying on my drive to work because the radio played a clip from the Steve Jobs movie! And it's not like I am a super huge Steve Jobs fan or anything. It just made me emotional, haha. We are tentatively scheduled for ER on 8/24. I am trying not to get too attached that date yet until we start going for the daily monitoring next Monday!

@brownie: Wishing you the best and hope you're able to relax today on bed rest!

  27. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

@twodoghouse: It's starting to get exciting!!! Being an emotional wreck is totally normal with this stuff. I was the same way and my poor DH had to deal with it!!! Just an FYI about the menopur, it stings when it goes in. I suggest numbing the area with ice before you do it. That menopur is seriously the devil. Hopefully the ER stays on the 24th. Having Sunday off of work would be ideal. I was fine to go back to work the next day, but I was still a little off. It would have been nice to have that extra day.

  28. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@justdarling: Thanks for the tip on icing the area. We will definitely try that tonight! I hope the ER stays on that day as well so I have the next day off. How are you feeling after your retrieval? Do you have to keep taking meds (progesterone or anything?) or are you completely done until the transfer in Sept?

  29. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

@twodoghouse: I am feeling fine now. The day of the retrieval I was crampy, but it really wasn't that bad. I took a few tylenol and laid on the couch with a heating pad and was fine. Yesterday I was still cramping a little, but I didn't even need the tylenol. Today I am perfectly fine. I actually feel better than I did during the stims. The bloating is all gone and everything is returning to normal. I didn't have any issues with OHSS, so everything is good now.

As for meds, right now I am on another round of Doxy. I also have to take the prescription prenatal, metformin, and folguard. I don't have to do any progesterone now since we are not doing the transfer yet. I think I will need to do some uterus priming and progesterone as we get closer to the transfer. It's kind of nice to have a break.

@justdarling: so great about your 9 fertilized eggs.

Regarding the genetic testing, we will be doing it when the time comes but we also have a 25% chance of having a baby with thalessemia major, which is the whole reason we're doing IVF. I'm not sure how I'd feel if that wasn't the case. Based on what I've read, there does seem to be a higher success rate of implantation (and successful pregnancies) when the embryos are tested. But obviously, it's not without risks and is pretty expensive on top of already astronomical costs of IVF.

I read a great book about IVF called IVF:The A.R.T of making babies by Dr. Geoffrey Sher. He has some interesting info and data about embryo testing in there.

I hope your cycle is successful! Thoughts & prayers for you!

@justdarling: 9 eggs fertilized and no OHSS ? how awesome is that!!! Congratulations.
@brownie: I'm so jealous of you..already chilling in the TWW can't wait to see your bfp

AFM, I've been out of town for a couple weeks now, I just got back from my RE's office and all is set for my FET next week. He's looking to transfer 2 snowbabies. I can't wait to meet my twins

  32. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

@PointeShoesTutus: Thanks for the info. My RE has said that we have over an 80% chance of success if we get the embryos tested. It is expensive, but we've already spent a lot of money on this! I'll have to look into that book.

@Apex: Thanks! Good luck on the FET. I'm curious to see how it goes since I will be doing a FET next month. I really hope both of your snowbabies stick and you get your twins!!!

I had a monitoring appointment yesterday and everything looked great. I start bravelle and menopur today. Things feel like they are moving quickly now. I go back to see my RE on Tuesday.

@brownie: how are you doing in your tww?

@twodoghouse: how are your stims going?

  34. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Apex: Fingers crossed that your FET goes well! Sounds like next week is going to be an exciting time for a lot of us!

@Leialou: Glad your appointment went well! My stims are going well. I've been icing my stomach before Menopur (like @justdarling suggested!) and it helps a lot. Definitely try that!

My stomach is starting to look more like a pin cushion because I'm getting a little bruising and blood spots where we're putting in the stims. I think that's normal, right? Also, last night and today I have been really achy/bloated/tender around my ovaries. I know this means it's working, but I'm nervous that it's working too well/too fast! Monday we have a monitoring appointment and we'll find out how things are going and how we will proceed next week. I'm expecting daily appointments, but I'm not sure yet what to expect as far as meds. It's so hard to believe that one week from now I could be resting after egg retrieval!!

I am curious about the frequency if monitoring. I go on CD 2 or 3, then not until day 8. How often after day 8 did/do you expect to go back? My RE hasn't said but based on my IUIs with injectibles, I was thinking I would go on 8, 10, 12, 13, 14. Do you think I will have to go more like every day? I usually O on day 13 or 14.

  36. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@kentuckygirl: Today is my CD8 and I'm going for my first monitoring since starting stims. I am counting on daily appointments this week, but my office said they will determine that after checking out my follies today. So if everything's growing slowly and there's not a lot of progress I will probably increase my dosages and skip monitoring tomorrow (CD9) then be back for daily monitoring on CD10-12. Looking at ER on CD12 or 13 as long as everything goes well! As a disclaimer, this probably varies with your protocol / doctor's preferences though. I'm on the long lupron protocol.

  37. kentuckygirl

    pear / 1786 posts

@twodoghouse: Thanks for sharing your experience. I guess daily monitoring from CD 8-13 just had not occurred to me based on my IUI injectable experience. I hope I don't have to go that often. My new clinic is so far away that I will typically have to miss a half day of work with each appointment.

  38. tequiero21

    honeydew / 7968 posts

@kentuckygirl: I had to go at least every other day for weeks.

  39. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@kentuckygirl: As @twodoghouse said, it really depends on your protocol and I think especially on your response. I went on CD2, then 7, 9, 10, (11 was a Sunday) 12, then retrieval on 14. Don't know if it's relevant but I was on an antagonist high stim protocol and started Ganirelix on CD9.

  40. justdarling

    apricot / 452 posts

@twodoghouse: The bruising is normal. It sucks, but it is totally normal. I also had the achy/bloated/tender feeling. It means things are working. The tender feeling was the strangest one. Good luck at your appointment today! Let us know how many follies you have growing in there!

@kentuckygirl: I went in for my first monitoring appointment on CD 8 and then had another one one CD 11. The ER was on CD 13, so I only had 2 monitoring appointments. They estimate that the follicles will grow 2mm per day. Depending on how big the follicles are on your first appointment will determine how often then want to see you. I was lucky and one of my appointments was on a weekend so I didn't have to miss work for that one.
