I never would have even considered this!!! weird... I suppose it is a valid concern. but I guess it also depends on what type of company you're interviewing with.

I left mine on - if that was a concern of the employer and I didn't get hired, then it obviously wasn't a company I wanted to work for.

I'm in the "who cares - wear what you want" camp but I have heard of discrimination over bigger carat diamonds, and seeing an engagement ring = time off for wedding & honeymoon that being brought up. It's so wrong.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: if they already know you, then I don't really see a reason to not wear them. Even if they didn't know you I would still wear them.

My industry is pretty dominated by young women so it really wasn't a concern at my current job (plus I wasn't married or engaged when I interviewed). I guess it would depend on the field and environment. I wouldn't want to mislead about being married but I could see leaving the e ring home to draw less attention.

No, I had honestly not considered this. I started my first full-time job when I was engaged and had to take time off within the first month to get married+go on my honeymoon. I informed them the minute they offered me a job, and it was never a problem. If the place I was interviewing wouldn't hire me because I might potentially have children, I wouldn't want to work there anyways!

I wouldn't, just because I don't want them judging on the size or it or whatever. My wedding band isn't exactly stand-alone without the e-ring anyways so for me they would both have to come off.
I assume if I am applying, then I really want/need the job...once I get it, they can deal with my "baggage" hehe.
Luckily for me, in my field, we're all mostly women and it is a government/federal job so it's totally not a concern of mine!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: to me, I know it's bad but, if I really wanted and needed the job, i'd do whatever it took to make sure I landed it. Yeah...even if I do take off my ring. But, first day on the job: the ring will be back! And i'll be damn if I'm not also knocked up 12 months into the gig, hehe. I mean, get the job by playing the game...and then once you're in, all you have to worry about is doing the job well, your personal life is no business of theirs.

I always remove my rings for job interviews. I would hate to not get a job because they thought I was "well off" just because of my ring.

I voted "wear both" but generally I don't wear my engagement ring on a daily basis. I've never really thought about it before. Both places I've worked have been fairly family friendly, and the organization I work for now is really great about helping our mothers when they come back from maternity leave.

For any important job-related "thing", I always only wear just my wedding band.

i think its misleading to not wear any, but i guess thats your prerogative. ive never been in a situation where it would have mattered.

@shopaholic: While it is okay in my office to wear a skirt/dress with bare legs, I have only done it a handful of times (and I live in Georgia), and I would *never* do it for an interview! My profession is more conservative than most, but pantyhose are part of business dress, and I would not wear anything less for an interview. It may seem silly or old fashioned, and although I would not base my hiring decision on whether the interviewee had bare legs or not, I would definitely notice, and would probably even jot it down in my notes.

I guess I'm the minority, but I would and do leave off my rings when I interview. Even though it's illegal for them to discriminate against you, you can't prove that's why you aren't offered the job, so why give them any reason to do so? Like it or not, there is an assumption that married women of a certain age are more likely to take a maternity leave, and given the choice between two similar candidates that could be the factor that sways the hiring manager. The only time I'd consider keeping on a wedding band only is if I were interviewing in a new geographic area due to a partner relocating - since it will probably come up that your spouse was relocated when you discuss why you are leaving your current job you're not going to give anything away by wearing it.

When I interviewed while engaged, I took my e-ring off. When interviewing married now, I only wear my band. Truth is, people do judge... If engaged, I don't want anyone assuming I'm going to be planning my wedding all day. Now still newly-ish wed, I don't want anyone assuming I'm going to have a kid right away and thus not be a reliable employee. It might vary by occupation but that's my experience.
