Any tips for job interviewing when you're currently happily employed?
I enjoy my current job, but there is a nearby opening for a very similar position that I would probably excel at. My only reason for leaving would be better pay / benefits.
I have a phone interview today to go over the position. Any tips/questions I should be asking? How do I bring up what the pay is as they haven't disclosed that?

It’s probably too late for this now, but if the jobs are similar questions about culture can make a decision clearer. Are there things you love/hate about your current employer and can ask about in a way that isn’t obviously about your current employer? I always like to ask about growth trajectory, too, especially if you have a clear path currently. Money is tough to bring up, but the worst thing they can do if you ask is say it’s too early to talk about. Avoid throwing out the first number, though, unless you know you’re asking for middle to high end pay.

They did end up asking me what I was hoping for so I shot out a salary a bit above what I would accept, which was quite a bit higher than what they were thinking so waiting to see what they come back with.
Overall it was a very good interview, I think I asked way more questions than they did but I think they're pretty interested in me and vice versa. I get so nervous for this stuff but it went well and at minimum gives me something to compare to as far as pay/benefits.

That’s great that it went well. At least you know what they’re offering, even if you can’t meet in the middle for this job, you’ve made a connection that might pan out if something else comes up in the future.

I always check in on business health. How's business going, any downturn from Covid, how did you address that, what is the roadmap for the next year, how do you measure success, how is the company funded, etc.
Once you've worked for a small family company and/or a startup, those questions become more important.
