Is lack of childcare a reason for jury duty exemption? Especially if I'd already postponed it once?
LO is home with me M, W and Friday. We have no one else to to watch her. DH works full time, BIL is unable to, MIL has cancer. Putting her in daycare full time will absolutely be a financial hardship.
Do I write in before or after my call in date?

The last time I had jury duty, they offered on-site child care. So for us, child care could not be be an excuse.

Write in before. And it may be considered an exemption (depends on the state).

Hmmm...I was allowed a one exemption due to childcare issues. It was emphasized it is a one time exemption. But part of me is like, what of I get called and I have another newborn? Not sure what the rules are in your state. I would definitely call or write in before your check in date

I'm on my 4th exemption I think. Between being almost due and nursing and sole child care since 2011, they haven't gotten me yet. Funny thing is that if they had child care, I would have loved it.
ps- I've always notified them ahead of time.

@locavore_mama: i was called in right when I found out I was pregnant and postponed. But they also offer child care now so I couldn't use that as a reason.

@bluestriped bee: I got called (in WA too) and was allowed an exemption bc I had a newborn and was the primary caretaker with no other childcare. They told me it's one time and good for one year

@locavore_mama: WA. Though, it only accepts certain ages. So I guess a newborn would be an exception.

If you are the primary caretaker for a child or disabled person you are exempt from jury duty in my county.

You would definitely need to get in touch before your call-in date. In TX you are exempt if you are the primary caretaker of a child, but obviously that varies by state.

Thanks ladies! Just called the local office and i have to send in a written letter and a copy of her birth certificate and I will be exempt since I am her primary caregiver.
