DH and I met in 2007, my freshman year of college. His roommate was dating my best friend at the time and she set us up on a double-date, at a bar where we played pool.

The short story is we met at a bar.
The longer story is that he was in town for training for a new job and his hotel was a block away from the bar. The company didn't provide a rental car, so his entertainment options were limited. My friend's dad owned the bar, so it was like our Cheers. I spent the night chatting up this great guy from 1200 miles away and thought nothing would ever come of it. But I ran into him there again a few nights later, and we exchanged numbers since he'd be back in town in a few weeks. 11 years, a few cross country moves, and two kids later, here we are.

14 years ago at the gym.
Back story: I was complaining to a co-worker about my love life and how I would never meet any good guys - he told me the guy I was looking for was at the gym - a few months later I joined the gym and met DH

We worked together, but at opposite ends of the building. I heard one of the guys at the other end of the store was running for congress, and I had to see who it was for some odd reason. Well I found him, he was a total nerd, and he needed some serious help because he was barely 25 but had politician hair and terrible suits (circe late 90s early 2000s because his dad had helped him pick them). So I started giving him a hard time.
Well we turned into FWB, then his crazy ass parents were convinced that I was a plant from his competition to distract him from his campaign and tried to run me off... Well we just started really dating instead, and here we are now married with a kid trying for another.

I met my husband while I was studying abroad halfway around the world! It’s an awesome movie-worthy story, but I’m afraid of losing anonymity if I post the details.

I met DH in college - my sophomore year, his freshman year. It's not really an exciting story but I had a boyfriend at the time. We were friends for a few months and starting dating shortly after my break-up with my ex.
That was in 2009 - our 9 year "dating anniversary" will be in December.

@Iced Tea: lol that makes me wonder if you are a celebrity on the DL
My DH and I met on the first day of welcome week in the dorms back in 2002. His roommate had a fake ID so they hosted a preparty, lol

Our short story is we met at work.
The long version is that we actually ran in the same circle for years before meeting. Met each other out one night while he was with a friend of mine but I thought nothing of him. After he stopped seeing my friend, we started working together and he pursued me pretty hard. I was not interested at first, but not wanting to take no for an answer, he eventually wore me down and I agreed to one date so he would leave me alone. That was my last first date, 11 years ago in December.

I guess you could say we were fixed up! A colleague of mine kept saying she knew someone at a different school site that she thought would be good for me, but I kept putting off meeting him because I was skeptical. Months later, he was in her classroom working on something and she told me to swing by to check him out. I did...some hilarity ensued and that was it!

@buttermilk: DH and I met on myspace too!
We started chatting on myspace in 2005, eventually met for coffee and that was that!
Fun fact, today is our 9 year wedding anniversary!

We met sophomore year in college through mutual friends, then had many classes together including a semester long project where I never did any of the work (its still a joke today that I'm a terrible group member!). But we weren't much more than friendly acquaintances.
Then we went on a school trip to Ireland. It was like an old fashioned ship-board romance - something about being on the trip together (and ALOT of Guinness) formed a bond and we fell in love!
I'm 75% Irish, so I like to say that I went to Ireland to discover my past and found my future.
We've now been together for 11 years, married for 4 this fall.

We supported the same software, for two different parts of the firm we work for. I supported US, he supported Singapore. That was 12 years ago. We are the third couple that the software has brought together.

We met my first week of college. EIGHTEEN years ago. Omg. He was a junior. He chased me for 6 months until we started dating and the rest is, of course, history.
ETA: actually it is eighteen years almost to the exact day. Weird.

We met in university - he lived with people I was friends with through my program. We were friends for a few years because he had a girlfriend but they split up, and then I lived in another city, but I moved home and we went on our first date the same day, 17 years ago last week.

We met in 2004 (how was that 14 years ago??) when he joined some fraternity brothers on a 12 hour road trip to watch a hockey tournament.
One of the guys was a close friend that I grew up with and they stayed at my parents house for the weekend. Took a few more trips before there was any spark between us but it lead to a long distance relationship and then eventually a move to be together.

We went to the same college. He interviewed me for an on-campus job. Needless to say, I got it . We began working together and our first date was a couple of months later.

We also met online on eHarmony. But then on our first phone call, we discovered we'd met in person 10 years earlier.
He was best friends with my cousin's husband in high school and had been the best man in her wedding. I was also a bridesmaid in that same wedding party. The funny thing was we could both remember lots of details about the wedding, but we couldn't remember each other at all! We were both in different relationships at that time, so we hadn't really noticed one another.
It's been 7 years since we met (the 2nd time, which we count as our "real" meeting) and 5 years since we got married.

We met in 2006, freshman year of college.
I had seen him around during orientation weekend and thought he was cute / totally my style. He was in my Politics class MWF, about 40 students in the class. I pointed him out to my roomies / suitemates when we saw him in the college cafeteria. Then, about 2 weeks into college, we did a "brother-sister dorm" volleyball tournament andddddd he was in my brother dorm! I introduced myself, we found out we had the same major and taste in music, I jokingly called him my future husband to my friends later that night (not in front of him). We were friends for a year, then dating.

We met freshman year of college (14 years ago!). He was the TA for my first major class. But we didn't really become friends until a year or so later when we ran into each other at the company we were both interning for. We were friends for a while before we started dating about 11 years ago.

In 2009 I was in a very unhappy relationship. A coworker was like "I totally have the guy for you, too bad you have a boyfriend!" and I loved his name. I broke up with douchey boyfriend (who I was living with!), the coworker arranged for future husband to take a shift when I was working (summer job in a restaurant). So I guess we were set up- a week later we met in person, he asked me on a date, and that was that!!

@DesertDreams88: I love your story! Isn't it great being married to another teacher? Even though he is Math/History and I am ELA, it's cool to be able to bounce ideas off each other, talk behavior management, gripe about admin... plus having a similar schedule is great for childcare.

We met during a beach party week on the Jersey shore
Didn’t even exchange numbers before we went home to different states, but I got his number afterward from the mutual friend who organized the vaca. That friend married us at our wedding 3 years later.
@DesertDreams88: @crazydoglady: I’m jealous of teacher marriages! My school is rampant with them and I just dream of what fun stuff we could do with all that time off together. Oh well, my DH is still pretty great

@looch: Our international program that year produced three marriages. It was a boom!
@ChitownRo: @DesertDreams88: I will consider writing the story and then deleting it within a day. It’s a fun story.

My husband and I met in a college cafeteria. I was studying Japanese at the time because I have always been into Japanese culture, video games, anime, etc. Sitting at one of the tables was this guy talking to his friend, and he was really cute. I'm not even sure how I knew he was Japanese, but I have a spot spot in my heart for Asian men I'm really shy, so instead of sitting down next to him and saying something I just put my Japanese book on top hoping he would notice, which he did XD From there we became friends and started dating shortly after. It's interesting because you don't see a lot of Caucasian women with Asian men, but it's worked out for us. At least most of the time XD He's a Japanese citizen (has his green card) so there have been some cultural clashes, but what marriage is conflict free We've been married 11 years and have a 19 month old daughter, and I'm 6 months pregnant with a little boy
