Just realized I left half a watermelon in the car last night 
it's been unseasonably cool, like low 70s today & cooler overnight, but I'm sure the car was warmer than outside, I park in an open garage. A pic so you can better judge
Keep it or toss it? Almost 24 hours now

Just curious what is everyone's thought process on why to toss it?
I mean watermelons grow outdoors, they are transported unrefridgerated. Is it because once cut it can grow bacteria?
Also I get it watermelons are cheap this time of year and probably not worth the risk.

@T.H.O.U.: I wish it was a cheap one! It's from a ridiculously overpriced farm stand, I'm embarrassed to day the full watermelon was like $15, it's cut 'cause I split it with my mom since neither if us will use a whole one before it goes bad. I really don't know about the bacteria, that's why I figured I'd ask. I'm with you that they grow outside & aren't refrigerated whole, cutting def makes things go bad faster, but it doesn't seem smooshy or slimy. I'm an idiot, I had tons of stuff to carry up & forgot I'd put it in the seat so it didn't roll while I was driving

@T.H.O.U.: Ha, I'd totally keep it. Just stick it in the fridge and unless it tastes funky, I'd eat it.

I'd keep it. Just taste some and if it seems off, throw it out.

I'm pretty conservative with food safety but I'd for sure taste it and most likely keep. If it were in there all day on a hot day I'd probably toss just because it wouldn't taste great but even then I doubt it would be unsafe. I might slice off a thin layer from the cut side just in case but I'd bet it's just fine.

So I would probably cut an inch of the exposed face off and refrigerate it and taste test it

I'm surprised so many people said toss it! I am usually super careful with food, but that doesn't bother me. Just make sure it doesn't smell funny!

I would eat it but I wouldn't feed it to my kid.
I usually have a stomach of steel though
Well... if the car felt warm I might toss it, if the watermelon were warm I would definitely toss it.

DH is in food safety and said do NOT eat the watermelon 
Because it has been cut open, after a certain period of time in certain temps in a closed environment with humidity it becomes a Listeria risk. Not worth it.

i was all ready to keep the thing and give it a sniff/taste, but since @Greentea: 's hubs seems like the one to go with, i'm gonna toss it. thanks for weighing in!!
