I had a co worker today in my presence state that she hopes any new team members she gets don't have kids, because basically they are not 100% committed because they don't want to come in early or leave late?!?
I was so offended, she has been my co worker for years and knows I have 2 young kids and long story short to me is implying we are not good teachers?!

I work alongside a teacher that is this way. I work high school AND elementary so there is a time difference in the schools. For my sanity I start at 7:40am (high school starts at 7:40) and end my day at 3:40 (high school teacher day ends at 2:50 elementary ends at 4) so in reality I work more than she does but she still holds this grudge against me!

You are a good teacher if you basically sell your soul to your classroom! I mean I get it I do so much, and I technically am early daily, contracted to be there at 8:45 and I am there daily by 8:15 *which is always unpaid!It just is sad, that she thinks that way!

This is just offensive across the board, to all the parents who are great at their jobs and to child free people who don't want everyone to assume they're available to work whenever because they have nothing else of value in their lives. ugh, ugh, ugh...

I can say 2-3x a week I am in bed after kids are in bed grading, putting in grades, lesson planning etc....... -
@FaithFertility: I'm a teacher, so I totally get it! I used to be at work later before kids. Now I'm just way more productive with my time AT work, and I still use time outside of school to finish up stuff.

Wtf. This is actually a fear of mine. I'm looking for a new job right now, and I've been thinking I shouldn't mention I have a kid (not that it would necessarily come up, but I could see myself offhandedly saying something) because I worry about how that will affect potential employers' opinions, either consciously or unconsciously. Then I think it's sad that I even feel that way

I don't get it! Teachers deserve ALL the awards, kids or no kids. My BF is a 4th grade science teacher and she has a four year old, and she is my hero. I could never put up with other people kids. Seriously though ALLLLL the awards
