What are your kids getting in their stockings? I need a few more ideas and I love getting ideas from other families, things I wouldn't have thought of.

So far we have: bath color tablets, dollar store squeeze bottle (like for condiments)--she'll love it in the bathtub, mini rainbow slinky, BrainQuest cards for 3-4 year olds, watercolors.
I'll probably try to scout out a couple fun treats that aren't pure sugar

We have books, a puzzle, a stuffed toy each, slinky, wind up dinosaur, glow sticks, flashlights, crayons and colouring books, and some stickers.

I’m trying not to go overboard this year. So far I have snacks, socks, Itzy Ritzy reusable snack bags and most importantly underwear for my 3 year old. Maybe the fact that Santa brought underwear will actually get him to try on underwear.

I never did stocking stuffers but DH did so I try. They are both getting cute socks and some new mittens (like the cheap carters 2 pack). We have other random small gift occasions between now and then so I’m not buying even more just to jam in their stockings. Maybe I’m lame.

Umbrella
Kaleidoscope
Play doh
Socks
Cute animal shaped ice pack
Kazoo
Small lego set
A small car he wanted
A flash light projector that puts shapes on the wall
Paint and brushes
DD is getting a lot of the same things plus a mini dancing robot thing (beatbo?) and a new wubbanub... and paint marker things instead of actual paint. She is 1.5 and DS is 4 in march.

@Mrs. Champagne: oo I also found a soft turtle shaped ice pack for her stocking!
@Foodnerd81: not lame. I love the idea of stockings, but I don't want a bunch of small random crap that I'm going to toss come January! Anything else i get will likely be consumable.
@catgirl: love it! I'd like to get DD Chapstick but I just can't trust her with it (I sound like my mother). It'd be all over my house.
@erinbaderin: glow sticks would be fun!

@SweetCaroline: oh I definitely don't let her have free access to it. I'm just sick of sharing mine with her. I'll put hers in the various places I keep mine and she can ask for it.

@catgirl: Ah, thanks! Tonight was a rough parenting night and of course I think my kid is the only monster and yours must handle her chapstick like a refined young lady

@Mrs. Champagne: we have a Beatbo and it’s kind of awesome. The music is catchy and not too annoying and my kids loved it, both the then 3 yo and then 1 yo.

@SweetCaroline: I got two kinds - glow wands that look like Christmas trees, and then the short stubby kind, my plan is to put them in their baths and turn out the lights to have “glow baths”.

This is my standard list. I try to balance between practical things that kids still get weirdly excited about (new toothbrush! socks!) and fun things.
toothbrushes
mittens
super hero socks (boy)
hair clips (girls - where do they all go?)
fruit snacks
small toy/figurine (batman for boy, my little pony for the girls)
stickers
play dough (our current stash is all mixed up and not as soft anymore)

DS is 2.5 and he's getting M&Ms, matchbox cars, socks, underwear, a toothbrush and chapstick (he is obsessed with mine)

We do St. Nicolas Day on Dec 6th so my kids already got their stockings. I went with a bath theme this year so that I did the crayola bath tablets, some bath bombs, those washcloths from the dollar store that open up in water, bubble bath, glow sticks, and bath finger painting soap. That should keep us going for the entire year!

@Canoli: That made me LOL! I hope the Santa incentive works!
We went on a Disney cruise in November and did the fish extenders. We got a lot of little Disney-related trinkets, so I saved a bunch of those and they'll go in their stockings. Plus chalk for their chalkboard wall and D (almost 5yo) is getting a deck of cards.

@erinbaderin: glow baths?! This thread was worth it just because of that amazing idea! What else do you have up your sleeve??
@hilary: hair clips, great idea!
@Mommy Finger: great call with those expanding washcloths! I'll have to grab some!

@SweetCaroline: not the usual but I like putting oranges in the bottom of their stockings - there are a few reasons why they use to do this but I tell my kids the one where fruit was scarce and only the rich could afford and so if you woke up with fruit in your stocking it was a big deal!
My kids always look for their orange -
*this year my 9yr old has been misbehaving and he joked that he would get a rotten orange - haha
** oranges take up lots of space =)
