Do you do a kids table at family gatherings? If so, who sits there, and at what age do you decide when they can transition to the big table?

Nope. It's just my inlaws, BIL, his two girls, GF, and us 4. Our table has 2 leaves and we can fit up to 12 comfortable. If my family had ended up coming up, I would've added some fold up tables at the end to extend the table. But we have the room.

We did at my grandparents. I remember being upset when at 18 I was moved to the grownup table, it was so boring in comparison!

Reason why I am asking is because we didn't do them growing up (small extended family, culture) and my MIL asked me if my son would want to sit at the kids table and I basically said she'd have to ask him what he wanted to do because he's never sat at one before.
They're the norm in my husband's family.

We did this with my dad's side of the family growing up. Honestly, we all stayed at the "kids" table into adulthood. The separate tables were less about separating adults and kids and more that no one had a table big enough to fit everybody. So if the group had to be divided in two, splitting into adults and kids just made sense.

There is a kid's table at my in-law's house, but it's full of DH's cousins who are in their 20's and early 30's. My kids sit with us, and sometimes we're at the main adult table. Other times we sit with the "kids."

We've always had them if the whole family didn't fit at one table. This year's was kind of a cluster because the 'kids' table' had five kids under 3 and their six parents. I look forward to when the kids can sit at a kids' table alone.

Now that we have a child-sized table I will be instituting this for family gatherings. It's so nice for her to have her own table that she can eat at easily or play at!

MIL had two tables set up this year and one ended up being a kids table, but not because she planned it that way. The kids just wanted to sit with their baby cousin (our LO) so DH and I sat there too.

Our families aren't that big so we all can fit at one table. When we go to extended family gatherings, there is typically a kids table. At Christmas, it was DH, DD1 and my high school age cousins LOL. I think he prefers their company to my aunts and uncles (their parents).
