I'm planning to get a kid friendly tablet for either my daughter's 3rd birthday or Christmas. I think I've narrowed it down to the Leap Pad Epic or Fire HD Kids Edition. Does anyone have either of these? Likes/dislikes?

I prefer iPad, but a nice economical option is the kindle, which has served us well so far.

We have an iPad and love it, but pricey. I would go for the kindle over leap pad. Seems more versatile and like it might have more features. My friend has the Fire and loves it.

We do have an iPad now that she uses, but I want to get something else that is just hers. My understanding (and I could have this all wrong) is that the Leap Pad would be better for apps while the Fire would be better for videos. I know the Fire has the Free Time access to games and videos, but I'm guessing you have to be on wifi to get that benefit. I want something that will occupy her in the car and at restaurants!

I don't have the epic but we do have a leap pad tablet my BIL got her for Christmas two years ago. I'm not a fan tbh. The battery life is crappy, it's touch screen with a stylus, the games you have to purchase are pretty pricey. It came with one or two free games.
We have a iPad mini that my mom got us and the whole family uses it. She's 3.5.

@SLR: when needed we will give her our iPhones while at restaurants if the food is taking too long. In the car she'll get our phones and she can watch the PBS kids app or Netflix Kids. For road trips I bring our iPad (wifi only) and preload a few videos for her. I think I DL a free few episodes and paid for 2 Daniel tiger episodes.
