Hubs and I are attending a wedding in July when Xander will be 4 months old. We're already asked my FIL and SMIL to babysit for that weekend and they are SUPER excited about it. I had always planned on bringing Xander to them for the weekend, but everything I read suggests bringing THEM to our house.
So... I guess my question is... should I try to insist that they come stay at our house for the weekend? Or will Xander be fine spending the weekend (Friday-Sunday) away from home and us?

I'd let them decide, but be clear on what you're offering to bring to their home (obviously not the entire kit and kaboodle).

No advice since I've never left my kids at someone else's house overnight..
But since X is so young, I don't see why he wouldn't do well at your inlaws' place. As long as they have him sleep in a similar environment that you have for him at home? (dark, sounds, etc).

@chopsuey119: Oh, you think since he's so young, he'll probably be fine? I'm just worried because I've never done it before! I was thinking he just might sleep better in a familiar environment.

I would think he'd be ok. Andy has slept in a hotel before and had no trouble.

We left our LO with my parents overnight at 3 months and she was totally fine at their place. She actually napped pretty well for them because they basically held her the entire time and snuggled and loved on her. I brought over some of her favorite things: favorite bouncy chair type device, some toys and books and plenty of clothes, diapers/wipes.
Everyone had a blast!

I'm most likely going to leave future LO with my parents at their house for the weekend when he is 6 months old. They aren't willing to come up and stay in our apartment so it's my only option if I want care for the weekend.

@Adira: we're taking the kids to Texas in July and I asked my MIL to give DS the darkest room she has available! He's used to napping and sleeping in semi darkness so I'm guessing as long as the room's dark he'll be okay! He sleeps in a pnp at home and he'll sleep in one at my inlaws' place too. I'm taking his sound machine with us because we have it running in his room for naps and bedtime.
DS will be almost 7 months when we go. If your wedding's at the end of July I'll let you know how DS did!
We'll be traveling 7/9-13

@yoursilverlining: Thanks for your insight!! I'm glad to hear that it worked out just fine for your LO! Hopefully the same is true for Xander! There's just so much stuff I'm going to have to remember to bring!

@chopsuey119: Yes! Let me know how it goes! Our wedding is the last weekend in July, so I'll be curious how your LO handles it! Though, you'll be there with your LO, right? So he'll have something familiar (parents), right? Xander will be in a new place without even us, so I'm nervous about it!

I would think he would be fine. Has he slept in the PnP before at all? I would bring whatever sound machine, etc he uses for sleep at home. Just ask them to follow the same routine/schedule.

@Smurfette: He's napped in our PnP before, but never slept in it overnight, though we are spending the night at these grandparents' house in a couple weeks, so he'll sleep in it then (with us in the room), so I'll get to see how he does. Hopefully he does fine sleeping there and that will probably make me feel more comfortable about leaving him for a weekend!

@Adira: I was going to suggest having him sleep in it before then, so you will feel better knowing how he will do. Since you have easy baby, I am sure it will be no problem. Now I am sure when we try and get R to sleep in hers, that will be another story

At 4 months I'd say he's still young enough that he should do okay anywhere I'd ask what's more convenient for them

I think he will be fine, just bring his stuff and especially sound machine.

I think he'll be ok anywhere. Babies are super portable. Your inlaws will be more comfortable in their own place, which will roll over to X being more comfortable.

@Adira: Will let you know how it goes! I don't think babies start having stranger/separation anxiety until a little later, so hopefully X will be okay!!
If it makes you more comfortable, I would ask and see if they're willing to stay at your place? The worst thing they can say is no!

@chopsuey119: Oh, that's true. I think I read that separation anxiety starts around 9 months, so at 4 months, he presumably won't be freaking out that I'm not there. At least I hope. Sort of...

@Adira: my SIL and her husband left their son with my inlaws at about 6 months for a week long vacation. I don't know how his sleep was, but my DH claims that week without the parents is why he and his nephew are SO bonded, and they are really, really close for an uncle/nephew relationship. To clarify, DH spent that week w his parents to help with his nephew,

@Adira: the only reason I'd say have them come is to save schlepping stuff. Other than that I think your LO will be fine at their place. I worry about forgetting stuff all the time.

I think it just depends on your LO. My LO has never napped or slept well in different places. Plus it's just easier since we have everything she will ever need here. What if he gets a high fever in the middle of the night? Do they have children's tylenol on hand? I know that you would bring a lot of that stuff to them, but you just never know what they will need.

Not sure how far your parents live but if they're close I'd ask them to come to you just to save on dragging everything over. That being said, R sleeps the same at all grandparents house and sometimes better there!
