You could always combine other fall fruit like apple and cranberry to make something more interesting. If you can get it from the library or order it, I highly recommend the Hoosier Mama Pie Cookbook. It's a local pie shop, and all their recipes have worked well for me. Besides fruit pie, I like their chocolate chess pie, chocolate cream pie, and espresso cream pie.

I often volunteer to do dessert for our family Thanksgivings since I enjoy baking and I like that I can make it a day in advance. I typically do an apple tart, pear-cranberry streusel and a flourless chocolate torte. My family isn't big on pecan or pumpkin pie so these work well for us.

DH loves chocolate pecan pie but it is too sweet for me so we use this Oatmeal Pecan Pie recipe with chocolate chips/chunks added.

We haven't had it in years since DS has a tree nut allergy. DH really wants it this year and DS is probably old enough to understand he can't have it (and not throw a giant fit) so I think it might make an appearance this year.

I recommend cutting back a bit on the lemon zest.

My family has a French silk pie recipe that’s been passed down for four generations (originally my great grandmother’s!) It is only 4 ingredients and requires epic amounts of whisking so I can’t imagine making it pre-electric mixers, but with a stand mixer it is a breeze to make and SO decadent and delicious. No joke, until my brother was in high school he wouldn’t eat pie—except this one.

I’m also thinking about a way to layer a little bit of pecan pie filling on top of pumpkin pie because I want both, but with 2 adults and a baby three pies is too much.

@ilovepie: I’ve made other chess pies but can’t believe I’ve never tried pb chess - definitely making this!

@PinkElephant: It really is next level! It rarely lasts longer than a day. The bottom becomes like a fudgy brownie consistency, then the pecan layer, and the salted caramel soaks into alllll of it. I always make homemade sweetened whipped cream to go with it, and it's a pretty perfect way to end the meal.
