i love target sheets! the bamboo are my favorite, but i also like the organic cotton ones, both are reasonably priced and very comfy & have held up nicely. i wash them in warm water. maybe try adding some oxi clean to help remove body oils?

I like Target sheets too! We have a set from Threshold and like it a lot! I do agree that white sheets get kinda dingy after while, esp on DH's side too Def want to see other people's tips!

We registered for Wamsuta (sp?) brand from BBB and loved them. They felt so soft and silky!

I've been buying Threshold sheets from Target. They're just as soft and a fraction of the price.

Can you hang them outside at all? The sun is a great whitener.

Our absolute favorite sheets are Vera Wang for Kohl's. Our backup sheets are whatever the 400-500 thread count ones are at Costco. They are thinner and more lightweight, but that might be better for you if you have a sweater?

The Vera Wang ones are like 800 thread count. They are a little pricey, but you can almost ALWAYS find several coupon codes online that you can stack and they are heavy duty and don't wrinkle. They lay so nicely and feel like hotel sheets.

DH is a sweater also but we generally find its ok as long as we keep a lightweight blanket on the bed instead of a down comforter. We like the Tommy Bahama lightweight comforters at Costco, cost like $50 bucks, and just keep a very lightweight duvet on it.

We use Tide free and clear with a Tide Vivid White boost pod on a white cycle when we wash them.

I love Ikea sheets, though I am not sure that you can buy them online. DH and I have the same issue in that his side of the sheets get to be SO GROSS and I am really bad about washing them every week. I used to buy white but, like you, bleach and oxiclean and whatever were not making them white enough so I bought a dark grey set from ikea and I don't plan on going back! We typically buy them like every two years or so though and pillows I buy him new FAR too often because no matter what he sweats right through them and even washing them doesn't seem to make them better.

Macy's has some Martha Stewart sheets I really like, I don't remember the name of them but the flat sheet and pillowcases have little diamonds embroidered on them. I like really crisp percale sheets and don't care for satin-weave or jersey fabrics, and the MS ones are just the way I like them. I have been meaning to get the organic ones from West Elm because I like the feel of them when I've handled them in the store, but haven't gotten any yet.

As far as care -- I think you just have to replace them every so often. When you think about it, if we sleep on them 8 hours a day, every day of the year, that's a LOT of wear and tear, more than any of our clothes get.

Costco - Tranquil Nights. They typically only have them once or twice a year (they have them right now!). Best sheets I have ever purchased (bonus that the king size are only 30 bucks and smaller sizes are even less). We have the same issue with the husbands side but they still look new after a year of using the same set.

Threshold sheets are great!

I don't know if you have a HomeGoods or Marshall's nearby but that's where we've bought our last few sheet sets and they've been amazing.

@pinkb: We just got the 800TC ones and they are by far my favorite sheets! We had the Wamsutta brand before, but they stopped making the kind I liked.

As an added bonus the Fieldcrest from Target fit our deep mattress 10x easier, they were about half the price, and I got a $15 giftcard and free shipping because I bought 2 sheets when they were on sale!

No advice on the brand, but I say skip the white and go for some colour! My DH sweats a lot too, and we tend to change our sheets every 2 weeks. I have a few sets that we rotate between, one in a pattern and the others solid colours (a pretty grey, and a beigey-brown), and the discolouration on his side is much less noticable than when we had white sheets! Never again.

I was starting to think the gross sheets were just me. I actually found some great ones from TJ Maxx that are 800 thread count and came with 4 pillow cases and it was $50 for the whole set. And after trying every tip under the sun to keep the white from getting gross, I opted for a light grey this time in hopes that they will look better for longer.

@Mae: are you washing them with hot water? I use cold for everything but sheets and towels. I feel like hot water works better to get out body oils.

@Mae: We use clorox 2 on the colored sheets. I've never had a problem with it. I've also used oxyclean, but I've never felt it did much. On the white sheets, I use a bit of bleach, fabric softener, and a detergent.

I do change and wash them weekly most of the time. I find if I go too much longer, they get that dingy/sweaty funk. However, if you're pretty good about washing them, then leaving them on longer every once and awhile isn't a big deal. If you don't want to run the washer every week for sheets, you could always buy 2 or 3 sets and just wash them all every two/three weeks. Also, if they do get grimey and you have a newer washer, usually a deep steam/sanitize or like cycle will give them a little extra boost.

i love white sheets, they are so classic and crisp looking. i think washing the sheets weekly, before dirt/grime really sets in, is the key. i was tired of buying white sheets often since it continually looked so dingy. i echo some of the other ladies here, i just buy gray or tan colored sheets.

Retailer: I really like The Company Store. I find their stuff to be really great quality and to last.

What are you washing with for detergent? Some detergents don't rinse completely clean and can leave residue over time that can cause some of the fabric issues you were describing. I'm a big proponent of vinegar in the wash, too: cheaper than sin, doubles as a natural softener, boosts cleaning, and reduces odor. Cha-ching! Not sure about oxi clean/bleach since I don't use them.

@Mae: I'm the sweaty one in our family. We have only colored sheets and I use oxyclean on them all the time. They don't discolor and they get clean. We got our best sheets from Sam's club. They are deep(we have a deep mattress), soft, and pretty affordable. Our second favorite sheets are from jcp. I think they are the Cindy crawford ones. I've also had really good luck getting sheets at Tuesday mornings for a good price and high thread count.

@Mae: all free & clear isn't very good on stains i don't have a consumer reports subscription anymore, but this has their top detergents listed
