Has anyone else been following the story? DH drives about 25,000 miles a year for work and I always worry about him out on the road. The article has more information than what I already knew. Especially of interest for those in SLC.

Two people in ny small town disappeared under similar circumstances and unfortunately both were suicides(one SAHM and one college student). We have been having a bit of an epidemic around here with attempts- the whole community is getting involved to better support our youth.

This story is so sad. It is so scary. Also, I wonder if we may be in the same town because the stories you mentioned happening in your town. Both so sad.

Maybe he needs some sort of GPS tracker watch or something. My apple watch has some sort of locator thing, but I'm not sure how it works if it gets separated from my phone.

We had something similar happen in Iowa last month... a father of 4 disappeared and sent his wife a text that he was tied up and in the trunk of his car... they found him 3 days later in Omaha at a hotel, and are getting him help.
I can't imagine being his wife and experiencing all the terror that would go with something like that!
ETA: not saying that the above story is a willing-disappearance. Just a similar story of a father gone missing.

Something similar happened a few years ago in the town I am from. A mother disappeared without a trace. They still haven't found her and assume that she is dead.

I have no idea what kind of technology is out there, but for peace of mind, could you get a GPS tracker for the car, and like @ShootingStar: mentioned, some kind of watch or tracker for your DH?
I had a mini freakout yesterday because my DH is traveling and he didn't let me know he had landed/made it ok. I finally called him around lunch time and he was fine. Said he didn't have internet service...and I'm like, why didn't you just call me then?

I have a tracker I use on my son, it's a watch that he wears, and it uses GPS to send his location to my phone. I thought apple watch could be set up this way too, where you can have someone else that has an iphone receive the updates on the location?
coconut / 8472 posts
@looch: I had to look it up to be sure, but the Apple Watch will only do this if it's paired with a phone and be in range. It doesn't have wifi or LTE on its own. So if someone were kidnapped I imagine the first thing the kidnapoer would do is toss their phone, making the GPS data on the watch just sit there with no way to communicate it out.

Stories like this scare me! It reminds me of the show "Disappeared". There is something about just "vanishing" that is terrifying.

It seems like theres a fair bit more to this story than the article lets on. Not saying its not terrifying when someone disappears but...seems like this guy left of his own free will and doesn't really want to be found....I fell down the rabbithole of the GoFundMe & FB group that's been set up for his search and its sketchy at best! Still, I hope he's found and does what's best for him and for his family.

@looch: @ShootingStar: You can do this between two iPhones. You can chose to "share your location" with a contact.

@Truth Bombs: Yeah, but if a kidnapper throws away your phone, or leaves it in your car, then it doesn't matter how many phones it's linked to. If none are in range it won't communicate.

@ShootingStar: We have Ticktalk for my son...he wears the watch, I see his location on my phone. Today, for example, I am in another state and he's on a field trip. I can track his location no problem. We are three states away!

@ScarletBegonia: yes! I wasted way too much of my time reading all the crazy details of this.

@ScarletBegonia: @Miss Ariel: but why not just leave a note. He would have had to know that "disappearing" would get a lot of attention.

@youboots: apparently they had been having marriage problems, she posted about it on her blog. He deactivated all his social media before he left. They also found drugs and alcohol In his car but since he is morman they said it can't possibly be his. So maybe he did tell her but she didn't believe or listen? Or maybe it was drug issues? Also there's been sightings of him at the gym and mall? So at lot just doesn't add up...
