We live in Florida and I can't wait to bring LO to the beach! He'll be 12 weeks on April 27th so pretty much anytime after that is a good temperature to go.
Since I'm a total over preparer, what are some must haves for a 3- to 6-month old at the beach? Particularly with swimwear - trunks only? Rash guard? Swim diapers? Not that he'll be swimming but we do want to bring him into the water.
What would your beach bag look like for a kid this age?

We took a beach vacation last summer when LO was 12 weeks old -- make sure you have a beach umbrella! We also had a little sun tent for him, but honestly he didn't spend much time in it. We had a few swim suits and 2 rash guards as well. SPF 80 even though he spent very little time in direct sun. We didn't get swimmy diapers last year, but will this year. Get a good sunhat with a wide brim that velcros under the chin so LO can't rip it off!

If you bring some baby powder, that will help get some sand off him!

I would definitely get a sun tent since they can't wear sunscreen until they are 6 months old!

I love the one piece rash guard suits. We have snapper rock brand, but there are lots of choices out there. It keeps their bellies covered (rash guard shirts would ride up on LO). It also helps a small amount with sand management.

- Sun tent or umbrella for sure.
- baby powder to get off the sand
- Waterproof camera
- Good sunhat with a wide brim all the way around and a string under the chin
- Sun glasses (We have baby banz)

We bring a lot. We drag out a big canopy so everyone has lots of shade, beach blanket and chairs, towels, Sun screen, hat, Sun glasses but she wont keep them on, bathing suit, swim diapers, change of clothes, and the normal diaper bag stuff.

I also totally recommend a tent. We got this one and I like it. We have about a 1 mile walk to the beach and its easy to carry, set up, but tricky to fold up until you do it a few times:

Swim trunks, rash guard, hat and my little guy actually wore sunglasses back then (won't wear them now)

No real advice, as my LO is still enjoying the all-inclusive vaycay that is my uterus, but needed to say that this Canadian girl is totally and completely JEALOUS that you can go to the beach in April!!!!

@artbee: what type of canopy do you have for the beach? My husband and daughter are pale skinned. He burns if he looks at the sun but will tolerate the beach if he is in the shade. I thinks he got his skin so I'm looking for something good to plop both of them under.

So from now on we'll use that. The first one is my parent's. We got it on sale and used a coupon so it wasn't too expensive, and we use it for camping.
