LO is 17 months old and for the past month or so anytime her belly is exposed she digs and digs at her belly button, and sometimes even down on her lower stomach. She does it so much that it will be extremely red. She spends most of her bath digging at herself, I have to constantly tell her no and move her hands away. I don't know if this is a curiosity thing or what but I have to keep a onesie on her at all times, even when changing her diaper she will do it. Does anyone know why she could be doing this and any tips on how to get her to stop?

Made she hide something up there
I would assume she is just being curious. I would just keep telling her no and try to distract her. Give her something in the bath for both hands so she can't touch it.

I do give her things and try and do songs as distraction and it will work for about 10 seconds then she is back at it. When I tell her to stop she starts crying, even though I tell her nice and calm...so weird.ETA: I thought maybe something was bothering her in there so I checked it out but it looks fine. Since she is digging below her belly button sometimes too it makes it even more odd.

@Bao: when you say dig do you mean with 1 finger or is she scratching?
If digging - hmmm... no ideas
If scratching maybe try some aquaphor or thick lotion - maybe its dry skin and bothering her?

My 14 month old does this as well (maybe not to the same extent as your LO, but quite often). DH is all worried that somethings wrong, but I think she's just curious. She pokes at my belly button too sometimes. She's not scratching, just pulling and pinching and poking.

@Mamaof2: She's actually digging, pulling, scratching it looks like it hurts when she does it that's why I'm not sure why she is...I'm thinking just because she thinks it's so weird that she has a bellybutton? lol Idk...

@tinyperson: Yes! and LO does it to mine...well it's kind of non-existent and the moment because of my huge belly but she does it to me and she isn't very gentle with mine either ha!
