I've been reading here and elsewhere that setting up good sleep habits from the beginning is super important if we want to avoid CIO or horrific sleep training experiences down the road. There was even a thread on HB a few weeks/months ago (that i'd have to dig up) with people saying what they wish they had done differently from the start!

I'm trying to anticipate as best I can how we might want to 'do' things (knowing of course every baby is different).

I've read Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child, Baby Whisperer, am now on No-Cry Sleep Solution - and obviously am getting overwhelmed! HSH, HC says "get the baby to sleep any way possible as 'drowsy but awake' might not work before 12 weeks because baby can't self-soothe yet". Baby Whisperer says "start as you mean to go on" and always put the baby down awake so it can put itself to sleep. Everyone says the baby will fall asleep while nursing but then afterward say they need to nurse to fall asleep and then had to break them of that habit.

So... HELP! What would you have done differently right from the beginning, knowing what you know now? Did you wake LO up after nursing or let them just sleep?
