My 3.5 year old has been telling the silliest lies lately, it can be about anything! Did you move this paper? No (uh it wasn't there before) Did you put your clothes in the hamper? No (umm they are in there, though) And my favorite is when you catch him in the act... Please don't kiss your baby on the lips and he replies, "I'm not!" Uh dude you're doing it in front of my face! lol
When did your LO start lying? How did you handle it or break them of the bad habit?

Mine does this too... the oldest one has always been "how old are you?" *he's 2 almost 3* and he says - 4! I'm like nope...
Someone told me to ask him "okay no more lying... how old are you really?" amazingly he said 2.
I sort of want to believe he's just lying for fun. If you ask them seriously they will tell the truth. Definitely pushing limits.
I really hope both our boys grow out of this!!

@Pancakes: That's a really interesting article. It says thought that kids lie to tell their parents what they want to hear or to avoid punishment?
Yet, my 16 month old will lie about when he's pooped. He's never been punished for pooping (lol!) and he surely doesn't understand or think that him not pooping is what I want to hear!
Yet, every time I ask if he pooped and should we change his diaper, he shakes his head no!

@.twist.: there must be other reasons, I know sometimes the lies LO tells make no sense. I read that chapter of Nurtureshock way back when I was pregnant with DD1. I need to go back and re-read it!

At 3.5 we are dealing with this too. We usually ask, Are you telling the truth?

@Pancakes: There definitely must be other reasons. It totally baffles me how fast they learn. How did he learn to lie? And about poop no less. He clearly doesn't want his diaper changed? Or feels icky about? or something?! hahaha Funny little guy.
