I have a LO and would love to have another next year. I am saving all of her clothes in case Baby #2 is also a girl. I have a friend who keeps hinting that she wants to borrow her clothes but I'm kinda reluctant...am I being a jerk? We don't live close and I feel like I would never see our stuff again!

I'd only loan clothing I was comfortable never seeing again.

In your situation, I would feel the same way. If I was done with them, that'd be a diff story -- but if your saving for the future? I'd keep them handy!

Oh yeah! Weed out the stuff you don't like. Girl, if she still has stuff of yours she hasn't returned? Don't lend her stuff. You will probably not get it back.

I have done it with my sister. But her first boys where twins so she already had double the stuff. And I send it all back to her to store for the next boy (she plans on having an indeterminant number of kids)

Even if you get it back, the items could get stained. heat set carrots do not come out!

nah i wouldn't. clothes aren't meant to be worn by 3 children. 2 and they get pretty worn!

@autumnlove: LOL that's awesome. I feel the same way. Hahaha. Unfortunately, all of the sleepers that have zippers (my favorite) are yellow with ducks on them. I can't wait till she grows out of them! Haha.

I'd feel the same way as you. I like @mediagirl: suggestion at weeding out some stuff you feel eh about and giving those to her. At least you gave her something and she can stop annoyingly hinting.

Someone asked for any of my maternity clothes 'that I don't want'. And I said that I'd like to keep the whole set together and I want to keep it until I'm done having kids.
Just be up-front.
She'll probably understand once she has her's. Plus I am sure that she will be gifted way more clothes than she expects. (Gift her at least one new set!)

I would only lend what you aren't planning on using next round. My siser is lending me her infant stuff since her daughter was too big, but I plan on returning everything. I have a good friend giving me all her daughter's stuff sicne she is done having kids and wants to pass it along, howver we are off on seasons. Mostly I want to buy my own, I like the idea of dressing my daughter in clothes I pick for her (and my style.)

I also had this issue when I found out my SIL was having triplets because I felt like they would expect me to loan them clothes. But then I also know that I would never see them again.... a mother of 3 is way too busy to go searching through her clothes to return stuff! So I just went through my stuff and set aside some things that I either have too much of or didn't really like. In the end I don't really care if someone gets upset with me. They're my clothes. I can't afford to go and buy all new clothes for baby #2, and they just have to understand that.

I loaned out all of DD's clothes, and I actually just asked for them back so I can hand them off to a different friend who is expecting a little girl next month. I figure, what goes around come around, and the first person I loaned them out to already told me that she's added/discarded some items as things become worn/replace/etc...
I don't think it's selfish to hold on to your clothes. They are yours, after all, and you can do whatever you want with them!

One of my friends loaned me clothes. She put her initials in each piece of clothing, so that I would remember which ones she lent to me. She also reminded me that she would like to get them back whenever I was done with them, so she could hold onto them for baby #2. I made sure to return the clothes as soon as I was done with them, since my friend made it very clear that she wanted them back.

Don't loan them! If she never returns them or stains them (inevitable with a baby) then you'll just feel bad. It's totally not worth going through that with a friend. You should start hinting about saving them for your next LO. She'll understand.

Yeah I feel the same way!! Though I think if someone were to ask or hint, I would do the same and get rid of the stuff I don't like.
I had people gift me some ugly baby clothes lol not sure my son will EVER wear them!
If it was a REALLY good friend/sibling, I totally would, and just label all the clothing.
Like @Mrs. Bee: said, clothes get worn so easily. Especially if it's boys 12mos+!!

Unless it's a really really good friend or family member, I probably wouldn't loan the clothes. It's very likely that some of those clothes will come back with stains and/or tears. I think if you just told her gently that you plan on using those clothes for baby #2, I'm sure she would understand. Or maybe you can loan her just SOME clothes that you don't mind parting with?

I only sent away stuff because I know we are moving when LO is 8 months, and we'll probably lose a bunch of stuff anyway--might as well let someone have the clothes. I would NOT lend them, only give them away.
If you know you want them for #2, don't give them away! Like @MrsBee said, clothes can only last through so many kids AND some stains do not come out.
