Were you told your LO's blood type?
When did it happen if you were?
I just realised that I was never told what my daughter's blood type is and she is 15 months old. Lol, I checked her online health record and it doesn't list it anywhere. I guess I will ask her pediatrician at her next appointment, but I just think it is a little odd that I wouldn't have already known

I have this vague recollection of them telling me his blood type while I was in the hospital. I wish I could find a record of it though so I knew for sure, but I THINK I know what it is (unless I dreamed it). If I was told, it was while we were still in the hospital.

I was told my LO's but I can't remember!! I'm O-, and my husband is AB+..I think LO is A+. or A-.

According to my mom (a nurse), baby's blood isn't always typed at birth. It depends on the mom's blood type, as well as the hospital's policy. We were told DD2's blood type, but I'm not sure we were ever told DD1's (they were born at different hospitals).

When they were born because I am O negative and my husband is positive. This means they needed to know if the babies were positive or negative to see if we might have antibody issues.

I think they wrote it on the immunization record we got from the hospital...

@Pancakes: That could explain why both @sorrycharlie: and I were told since we're RH-Negative. I THINK Xander has a RH-Positive blood type.

@sorrycharlie: @Adira: me too - I'm RH-neg, so they typed J at birth. He's AB+, so I got another rhogam shot

We were never told. I asked an appt and the dr said they didn't have it.

I wasn't told but just by genetics I have a pretty solid guess as to what it is.

I'm RH negative, but so is DH so it wasn't an issue. I am curious though. It would be good info to have in case of emergencies.

We were never told, I don't think he was typed. Genetically he's either A or O, but could be - or +.

I was just thinking about this the other day! I know I got a second rhogam shot, (I'm AB-) but I can't remember what or if they told me what LOs is. I don't know where to look for it either. whoops.

I know D's, but not M's. D had a NICU stay, though, so maybe it was important for him to be typed.

Sawye is A pos, I am O pos and he got typed because we were trying to determine the reason for his early onset jaundice.
In an emergency they need to re-type anyways, they can't give blood based on what someone says the blood type is because people's memories are unreliable. Plus if they are giving type specific they have to cross match blood to make sure there aren't any issues with specific antigens.

They told me at the hospital both times but I don't remember it. I just remember that it was different from mine. And with my younger son it was a possible cause of jaundice which he did have.

I can't remember offhand. I know that I didn't need the extra rhogram shot because of his blood type postpartum. I know my blood type thanks to pregnancy and the rhogram shot.

So, we had a big issue with finding out LO's blood type. My DH is - and I am + and he was just curious what LO's blood type was. But our hospital refused to do a typing test, and basically told us it was out of pocket if we wanted to do it- so around $400. No way. We couldn't believe that hospitals didn't tell blood type anymore. They said it was irrelevant
