I want to cry!
LO is okay, thank goodness. We tried a new brand of cereal today and immediately after her second bite her face and hands broke out into hives - her face was sooooo puffy! Hubs ran out to get baby Benadryl and I called Telehealth. Luckily her breathing was fine and she was acting like her normal self - it was just her face and itchiness.
Allergies are scary things! I think I aged 5 years.

@Andrea: It was just a plain old Nestle rice cereal! We've never used it before, though (we've eaten Heinz and different organic brands). As far as I know, she's not allergic to anything! Now I might consider getting her allergy tested...So scary!
@mrbee: Telehealth in Ontario (I think they have it in all provinces in Canada) is a free telephone service. You can call and speak directly to a registered nurse to determine your next steps (self medicate, visit doctor, go to hospital, etc.) It's really awesome. I don't know when Canada introduced it but I think it was to help lower the number of unnecessary hospital visits.

@Rubies: oh weird, it doesn't sound like she is allergic to rice cereal then. maybe it somehow got contaminated with nuts or something else in the factory?

@NYCaliMama: Oh, I gave her the Benadryl immediately and then called Telehealth. The Benadryl worked really quickly...Within 5 minutes her face was less puffy.

Very scary but so glad that she is doing well now. My LO has had quite a few allergic reactions to certain foods, but luckily it would go away within a few hours. Hopefully you can find out the culprit.

This may help someone else out, but not all cereals are created equal...some contain other grains and aren't 100% rice or oatmeal or whatever. I didn't realize this when we started solids, but since then, I've read every package very carefully.
