It sounds gross to me as well, and if your baby ends up admitted to hospital for whatever reason (jaundice, etc) the placenta will be immediately removed from them due to infection risk.
Also, no animal would ever leave the placenta attached, even dogs will naturally chew the cord off close to its puppies, so why do people think it is a good idea? It boggles my mind.

The nurses told us about it at our birthing class because someone asked about it. Sounds gross and unsanitary. Imagine the smell...

I asked my doula about it merely out of curiosity. She had attended a few lotus births so I guess people really are doing it.

I actually have 3 friends who have done this. It didn't really bother me or smell when I was around them.

I'm all for delayed clamping but I don't see the benefit in this! I have never heard of this prior to reading this article!
