I don't know if it's right or wrong, but we do not allow the lovey anywhere but the crib. If he's sick he can carry it around but otherwise, no. It's for sleepy time.

We allow him to take his lovey wherever he wants. I do try to have him leave it in the stroller when we go to the park though--don't need it getting dragged through the dirt. His paci, however, has to stay in the crib. I don't mind him pulling his lovey around, but I don't want him running around with something in his mouth.

Do you have multiples of her lovey? if not, I would definitely get some! We have 3 so we can rotate when they get too dirty.

We actually let DS have his A&A security blanket around whenever. He went through a phase where he was attached to it 24/7. Around 18 months, we limited to nap/sleep time only. Unless he's sick. And he's done fine without it. He'll grab it if we're in there throughout the day, but knows to put it back when we leave the room. ETA: we also have multiple A&A security blankets as back-up/wash/etc.

We leave her lovey in the crib, but she's also not super attached to it. I don't know what we'd do if she were. I think I'd be ok with her carrying it around the house, but not at mealtimes for the reasons you stated.

Paci only in the crib. He can have his blanket in the house, but it stays here unless we are traveling. I made it, so it isnt exactly replacable, and losing it makes me a little nervous plus he sleeps with it so i would prefer to keep it clean/ germ free if possible. I dont worry about germs too much when we are out of the house, but him dragging it around in public and then snuggling with it in his face grosses me out a bit

i limit the paci because i dont want to hinder oral or language development, but i dont see any harm in allowing access to his blanket within the house.

ETA: he definitely doesn't carry it 24/7 at the house. He will hold it for a minute or two and drop it. If it was getting in the way of him doing other things we would set more limits for sure

I limited the lovey, because I didn't want to be in a situation where my son took it out of the house and we lost it and I wasn't able to replace it. I eventually had a backup, but that was my driving factor in keeping the lovey in the house, primarily in the crib.

i limit it to an extent. lo is almost 22 months and she mostly uses her lovey for sleep and in the car. otherwise i don't like her using it just because it gets dirty and gross. but if she sees it around the house i'll let her play with it and then try to hide it when shes not looking she knows the limits though and gives it to me when i get her in the morning and in the car when we're about to get out.

DD has a stuffed animal that she likes to carry around and at first wanted to hold it when she ate, left the house, etc. We started teaching her that Mr. Turtle sits on the counter and watches her eat breakfast and she puts him there in the morning now. And we put Mr. Turtle in the same spot when we leave the house and say "bye bye" and she has been ok with it.
I'm sure it's a stage (like everything else) and she'll grow out of it!

We don't let Xander have his lovey (A&A blanket) during mealtime either. He's messy enough as it is - I don't need him to get that dirty too!

@JoJoGirl: I'm actually going through this too with my almost 17 month old! He has an angel dear blanky/animal, but he's also wanting to carry around several other things (a blanket, a stuffed animal, etc.). For now I'm just letting him do it because I figure it will be a phase. I am strict about taking it away at meals because it can get too messy and also with the car (he can bring it in the car, but then it doesn't go with us inside a store, Nana's house, etc. because I don't want to lose it).

We have rules, too, and he is perfectly fine with it. No lovies outside of the house and no lovies during means. Otherwise, it's ok around the house. We're really firm on these rules and he seems fine.

We don't let her take them out of the house, and not during meals. So she basically carries them for about an hour after she wakes up, then forgets about them.

We let DD1 have her blanket almost everywhere but the table. I think it was good for her especially while travelling. Now she is 27 months and it was nothing to get rid of it.

DD is very attached to her Pacifier, we try to limit it to sleeping and car rides only. its been hard because when we go out in the evenings she has her moments of meltdown because she is tired and we do cave and give it to her.

I might have been skewed by the fact that my nephew and nieces have been allowed to take their lovey everywhere and I saw what a mess that caused for my brother and SIL. Therefore, we keep the lovey and blankie in his crib or at least his room. If we were to be driving a long distance, we'll usually give it to him b/c we want him to nap. He did go through a phase where he did want it all of the time and would freak out if he saw one around the house (like if we had folded the laundry but not put it away yet) but we've stayed firm on this.

It had never occurred to me to limit lovey time, though looking through some of the responses I think there are certainly good reasons to do so. My LO is 2 and Lamby goes everywhere with her.

We've never had "loveys" until 2 1/2, now he has to have a Matchbox car to carry around most of the time. He has to park his cars at meal time, and can't bring them to playtime at the YMCA or swim class. The rest of the time he can carry them wherever and always has to have one in each hand at bedtime.

@LovelyPlum: My LO is 2 and still lovey-crazy. We joke that Lamby is going to college with her, lol. It's weird because I consider myself fairly strict as a parent, but the lovey battle is just not one I think I need to fight. But yes, many a lovey has been lost to a stroller toss, which is annoying. We usually have a back-up hidden in a closet in case of emergency
