Did any one else have a low placenta at an early ultrasound? My Dr's office just called and said that my NT scan showed that my placenta is "low". They are having me come in tomorrow to go over things I need to be careful about (heavy lifting, bearing down when I go to the bathroom, etc). Has anyone else had this? Did it move up as your pregnancy progressed? Did it cause further complications for you?

I had a partial placenta previa (1 placenta covering part of the cervix) diagnosed at 16 weeks. It was completely resolved (moved up and out of the way) at 20 weeks, and has stayed that way. My OB didn't treat it as a huge deal - just said no running and jumping off cliffs to be exact. It can also make you more likely to have spotting after sex. If yours is low-lying, it may not actually be touching your cervix at all, just close to it. If that's the case, I think you're at very low risk for any sort of complication, so I wouldn't worry. My understanding is that it's really only an issue if the placenta is actually covering the cervix near/at delivery - causes excess bleeding and the need for cesearean.

I had a low lying placenta for most of my pregnancy. It finally moved up around week 32. In most cases the placenta will move up on its own as the pregnancy progresses, but if it remains down near your cervix then your doctor will probably want to schedule a c-section for you.

Mine moved up too. I had to I stain from intercourse from week 18 until 32. That was the only precaution I had to take. As my baby grew I had really frequent and uncomfortable urination but that was about it. I was already planning on a c section so my doc said it wasn't a big deal

I never had that, but hope everything is ok and it doesn't make the pregnancy too tough for you!

Thanks guys, it's definitely giving me piece of mind to hear from those of you who had the situation resolve itself. I'm assuming the will put me on pelvic rest but we'll see.

I did from 8 weeks until about 24. Just in the past two weeks-I am almost 26-it has moved up. Crazy, but I can really feel the difference.

A friend did, and it was detected at 17 weeks. She went back for a scan at 25, and it was fine!

Mine was low early in the pregnancy but had moved out of the way by early 3rd trimester. I wasn't given any precautions. They usually do move out of the way, from what I read.

Update: I went in this morning and saw one of the other docs in my practice. She said she thinks they had me come in just because they know I tend to get anxious and they wanted to put my mind at ease. She said my placenta is low but that it's not actually touching my cervix and she feels comfortable garuanteeing me that it will resolve itself well before delivery. And she doesn't want me to give it another thought. So, I won't : )

My placenta was low at 19 weeks, but by 22 weeks it had corrected itself
