There's going to be an eclipse tonight! It will be visible fully or at leastly mostly for most of North America. (Sorry UK and other location folks.) I'm excited.
It also makes me wonder. Since for us this starts around midnight, if LO were here, what age would it be worth waking them up or keeping them up? Definitely not an issue we'll be worried about anytime soon, but just curious what ya'll think.

@Torchwood: My oldest is 5.5 and event though it super cool - no way would I wake him at midnight! Maybe age 10?

DS wants to see it. He's at his dad's house though. I'm not sure gis dad would be willing to get up in the middle of the night for it.

I would probably only wake them up if they were old enough to express interest in seeing it. It's not an extremely rare occurrence, so there will be plenty of opportunity for them to see another.

I wouldn't wake my kids up unless they were interested in seeing it. Maybe 6+

Yes, we go out and look for lots of fun stuff/special events in the sky (Perseids, perigee moon, etc.), even if it's after bedtime. This eclipse is on our radar, and we are considering getting our 3yo up to see it. I have observed that one-off things don't really mess with his sleep, and he goes back down pretty easily.
We've been talking about the phases of the moon for a while, so he's interested. He has basic concepts like orbit down, so I think he'll understand the significance of what's going on.
