Is Madeline pronounced mad-ah-line?
And Madeleine is mad-ah-lin?
We are naming one of our girls the 2nd pronunciation, but I haven't decided on the spelling yet. Madylin, Madelyn.... Ah, there are so many variations!

I like the spelling of the second one. Seems how I would spell it if someone told me they were named that.

If I heard it pronounced like that, I'd assume the first spelling. It's a very cute name!

I've heard Madeleine pronounced both ways, so I'd go for whichever spelling you like best.

I think it can be whichever you prefer. My nana is "Madeline" and pronounces it, "Mad-lynn" which could just be her accent, but she's never said "Mad-a-line." However, I read a blog in which it was spelled that way, but pronounced, "mad-a-line"

Madeleine cookies are one of my favorites so I am used to that spelling!

I've only seen it Madelyn. But the fun thing about naming your baby is that you can do it however you want!

To me Madeline and Madeleine are both pronounced Mad-a-line
If you are going for Mad-ah-lin I would go with Madelyn as it's more straightforward

Our baby girl is Madalein - Mad-ah-lin
Hubby picked the Irish spelling since he's Irish.

i like the spelling of madeline better, but that could be mispronounced (mad-e-line and mad-e-leen).

@milkteaandpolkadots: I like the second pronunciation better too, and believe the first spelling could be said either way. All you have to do is correct people once, and they'll remember. It's not that unusual of a name, or a pronunciation question.

I would pronounce both of them mad-ah-line. I like the way madeleine looks, but madeline reminds me of the children"s book and that I loved.

Thanks for all your input, ladies! We finally made a decision at the hospital after our girls were born to spell it as Madylin. I like how it incorporates my maiden name of Lin.

When I see Madeline, I say mad-eh- LINE in my head, but I still say mad-eh- leyn outloud...
@milkteaandpolkadots: Very nice. I like the special meaning.
