How do you pronounce the name Ariadne?
How much do you care if someone mildly mispronounces your name?

I've not heard of any baby Ariadne's and suddenly I know 3 born in the last month! Was there an Ariadne in the news recently?

Ari-ahd-knee, I think. I've never heard it.
ETA: It would bug me to have someone constantly mispronounce my name, and that was one criteria when we chose our kids' names.

Good to know. No one pronounces my name consistently, but it's all simple stuff like hard vs soft vowels. I respond to it either way and at this point I don't know which one my parents actually named me, but I still love my name.
I suppose it really depends on how different the mispronunciation is!

I have no idea, so I didn't vote. That D is really throwing me off and at first I read it as Adriane.
People mispronounce both of my LOs names because they each have 2 possible pronunciations (and they are fairly common, classic names). I don't mind correcting the first time since you really can't know, but I get annoyed when the same person keeps making the mistake.

I'd pronounce that as "r.e.-AHD-nuh". I've never heard of it, but I like it. It's pretty.
My last name was mispronounced my entire life, and I would just gently correct people and move on. I don't know that it bothered me that much. I think if you really like the name, it would be more important to me that the people close to me were able to pronounce it correctly, so that should just take a short learning curve I would imagine. For some reason I have no idea what you are even asking with the rest of your questions, though... Names inspired by these things? If so, I guess I still don't have any suggestions. Lol!

Ari-ahd-knee.
I have heard this name, although only on one "real" person. I associate it with Greek myth. I would assume a child with this name was of Greek descent.
Edited to add: I would be annoyed if people mispronounced my name. People do, occasionally, because the spelling my parents chose is the same spelling as a common boys name in another country, so if someone doesn't know me, they might think it was pronounced like that. But luckily it doesn't happen often.

It's sort of a confusing name... I thought it said Adriane until I took a closer look. R.E. - Add - Knee? I'm really not sure.
I don't think the odd mispronounciation would bother me but this name looks like it might get pronounced wrong as often as right

The main reason I know of the name is Greek mythology. She was married to Dionysus. She is associated with mazes/labyrinths, daughter of Minos, helped Theseus overcome the minotaur with that thread to find his way through.

I've always liked that name. The only quasi recent pop culture reference I can think of is Inception, but that's obviously been a few years ago now. I assumed they gave that character the name based on its mythology.

Isn't one of the characters in Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot books named Ariadne Oliver? I think that's the only place I ever heard it before.

I think this is a name that will get straight-up BUTCHERED; and it's not one I would pick for my kid.
My name is mispronounced very, very often and it's annoying. It's especially annoying when it's mispronounced by people I've already corrected. Some (read: a lot) of people I think just don't hear the difference in what they are saying vs. what they think they are saying - and that's not something you can correct them out of easily. Yes, it's been frustrating to have my name miscalled/mispronounced more often that not - and my name isn't even "weird" or spelled weirdly!. Odds are very good that I'll be called the wrong name in most every public situation (like calling out food orders, phone calls to me, etc.)
With this name, I don't think were in the same ballpark as "mild mispronunciation", like I said, I would anticipate total butchering on a regular basis by people in the US.

I have a good friend called Ariadne -- we call her Ari!
In my Aussie accent, it'd be more like Arry-Ad-Nee. But we say everything slightly differently.

All I think of is Inception. I've never heard the name outside of the movie. But it's been awhile since I saw it and I remember it as R.E. - AT - Nah, which doesn't fit your choices (and probably isn't the way they actually pronounced it in the movie).

@PinkElephant: Oh interesting. I think they only say her name like 2 or 3 times in the whole movie. I watched it 2 times without figuring out her name at all!

@pastemoo: agree. I have a close friend with this name (she's Greek). I don't think mispronounciation is as big of problem as people here seem to think. To me, it sounds almost exactly as it looks like it would sound.

@Madison43: I mean, I get that people don't read names well, but if you introduce yourself and say "Hi, I'm Julianne" how often does some say "Oh, Hi Arianne" anyway? I think in conversation it won't be too butchered.

I know an Ariadne. She's 8 and it sounds like R.E-ahd-knee. I dunno that it'd be that mispronounced? I feel like its pretty phonetic and not hard to remember if someone told you out loud.

When I first read it, I had no idea how to pronounce it. I kept thinking Aria (ah-ree-ah) but the d and n threw me off. When I saw how you separated it - it clicked instantly. Ahhh Airy-ad-nee! I heard of that name (but I'm not exactly sure where).
