I mean... maybe doing full-fledged makeup is a bit much, but I can totally understand wanting to look decent in those pictures, haha. I have REALLY bad dark circles under my eyes, so if I don't touch them up, I'll look like I was recently beat up. I don't know that I'd do it, but I know I'd prefer to look respectable in those pictures... wouldn't you?

Some people are definitely naturally pretty and don't need makeup to still look good. But some of us aren't as gifted. I certainly wouldn't ask for my makeup BEFORE the baby, but I could definitely see doing some strategic touch-ups after and getting some photos of me looking decent with my newborn to show others and/or frame.

I'm curious how much makeup this person applied. My makeup routine pretty much just consists of under-eye concealer (a MUST for me before I leave the house), and curling the eyelashes. Probably doing eye shadow, lip stick, blush, etc. might be a bit much...

I'm pretty vain so I thought I'd totally do this - I brought my makeup box to the hospital and everything. But afterward I was just so tired I did not care. Even 5 days post-birth (c-section) I still didn't care about how I looked. I went home from the hospital in my glasses and pj pants, and didn't even dress Max in his coming home outfit. I kind of wish I looked a little less crazy in the photos, but at the time I just didn't care. Maybe next time!

i'm too vain to take pics without makeup, but i was in too much pain to put any on, so i have no pics. if you have the energy to put makeup on post labor, more power to you! seeing pictures of me with makeup on post labor would have been comical to me because i felt like crap.

Oh, people told me not to bother bringing a pretty nightgown or pajamas because you'll just bleed all over them... again, I'm so glad I did because even though I was bleeding a lot, it wasn't anything the gigundo pads and mesh underwear the hospital provides couldn't handle, and after being in the hospital johnnys for more than 24 hours I couldn't wait to get into some fresh, nice clothes.

Lucky for me my brother is a professional make-up artist so he is going to give me a little help for pictures that I may be forced to take. Nothing heavy but enough to make me look a little more human depending on how hard labor is.

I don't wear it on an everyday basis, and I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've had make up on in the past year. Possibly because of this, I didn't look any different in photos taken shortly after labor. I may have even had a "glow" from being so happy to see my son.

@Dorytina: I wish I brought pretty PJs to wear at the hospital! It would have made me feel more at home and less hospital grungy.

I don't wear much make-up everyday (shadow and mascara-- I have little Asian eyes, so I need to enhance them as much as possible), so I think I'll do the same when I'm at the hospital.

A few years ago, I was planning on buying those cute delivery gowns (like Pretty Pushers http://prettypushers.com/), but now I think that's a little crazy. So probably just a bit of make-up.

I'm not that girly on a regular basis, so I'm not sure why I felt the need to spend 50 bucks on a girly gown to bleed all over. Glad I didn't buy one yet!

I am pretty vain as well, I didn't put any on immediately afterwards though, and I told everyone NO pictures of me! So unfortunately there aren't any of me, but I learned my lesson of regret with my 1st those pictures aren't shown to anyone! I did however shower, blow-dry and curl my hair, and applied all my makeup (foundation, eyeliner, and mascara) the very next morning.

Nope... I gave birth, I didn't feel the need to look perfect. But I actually don't think I looked too terribly horrid for someone that was in labor for so long.

I'm not pregnant yet, but I am definitely considering doing hair/make-up after the baby is born. I am not talking full-on "Glamour Shot" style hair and make-up, but just a little bit. I don't wear make-up normally, and my hair is almost always in a pony-tail or up in a clip (job requirement, plus I am lazy about that stuff!). I just feel like, you're going to be in a lot of pictures, why not look your best? AND, more importantly, (to me, at least), you've just gone through labor and delivery; if ever you have deserved pampering, it's then!

i definitely plan on taking a few travel size items...my mini Tarte blush, lip stain and some mascara!

We don't have any pics of me right after the birth but I slapped some make-up on the next morning when the hospital photographer came along. I barely put on anything but I still look decent in the photos so I'm happy about that since we'll be looking at those pics for a long time.

I think the pictures I have after having my son are some of my favorite pictures. Not a stitch of makeup, hair was a rats nest- but the overwhelming feeling of gushy baby love and the holysh*timananimal glow was a good look on me. Then again, I'm a total dude-chick and had to be forced into wearing makeup on my own wedding day...so, maybe it was different for me. LOL

I bring my traincase of MAC after I give birth! Those pictures will be around forever and be displayed above the mantel or staircase always. I want to look my best!

I do think it's a little tacky to have a full face of makeup and eye makeup and the whole shebang, because it makes you look really high-maintenance and diva-ish.
But on the other hand, you don't want to look pale and sick and dead. I totally understand wanting to cover acne and putting on a little blush. You want to look happy and healthy in photos.

If I have energy, I will, at least, curl my eyelashes, put on mascara, lip gloss, and under-eye concealer.

I also saw an old hs friend with a fresh face (not tons of makeup) and she look fabulous!

I rarely put on a lot of makeup, just some concealer and blush. And that's all I brought because like many others, I figured for the pictures, I'd want it.

But I was way to lazy to put it on. People weren't looking at me anyway, they were too busy looking at the baby

I have some makeup packed in the hospital bag but I'm not sure if I will use it or not. I have a lot of items like that packed. I figure it's there if I want it.
