I don't think it's necessary to have matching appliances. I think with how much drama you've had, I would just get whatever one that fits!

Our appliances don't match and it has never bothered me. Our fridge is Maytag and our dishwasher is Frigidaire. Both are stainless. Our oven is white, but I'm waiting for it to die before we replace it.

Actually, I never paid attention to the appliances in homes when we were looking to see if they matched.

I don't think matching in terms of brand is important. We have a Bosch over and microwave, but our fridge is Samsung. However, they're all stainless. I think if you were to get a different color it would be really weird. The only case where I'd think it would make sense is if you plan to change over your whole kitchen to the different color eventually.

@ShootingStar: we have been slowly converting to new appliances so as we replace them we get stainless. Our fridge is still white but fortunately our cabinets are too so it still looks okay haha

Matching colors: yes
Matching brands: no... I honestly wouldn't have even paid attention to that.

We had matching that we bought when we moved in. Then the fridge died and we couldn't get one that matched and fit the space. So now they do not match. If I was to buy all new again of course I want them to match but as the home ages and appliances age it seems impossible for them to match. We will be replacing our dishwasher soon and I am not even concerned with it matching anything brand wise anymore just the color.

Our finishes match but not our brands. My kitchen is a year old.
For the record I design high end kitchens for a living and rarely do we use matching suites of appliance brands.

@oliviaoblivia: what do you think of Electrolux quality? Our new house has all Electrolux appliances except for the fridge, which we have to buy through builder or buy on our own. We're interested in the French door fridge with freezer on the bottom and not counter depth.

@oliviaoblivia: I've heard of just 4 of those brands and one only because one of my favorite bloggers featured a stove as a splurge option in her kirchen remodel. Your designed kicthens are very fancy!

When I voted matching, I meant color (not brand). I totally don't think brands need to match.

If you mean brand, I've never even noticed brands. But yes, I prefer the colors to match. Well, if it's a built in. Our microwave is red, so probably best we don't try to find red appliances to match.

I'd prefer them to match in color not brand. But function is most important. We currently have all Samsung appliances that were here when we bought the house. They're not great so I definitely won't be replacing with Samsung.

When I think of matching, I think of style, material, and color, not the brand. It's rare that a single brand outperforms in every appliance. I like shopping for the best reviewed/tested gadgets and pretty much just ignore the brand.

For my personally I don't think they need to match (either brand or color) but if I knew we were going to resell the house id have them match in color because I think that's expected.

I also match color (stainless steel) but we have different brands. Our kitchen is 3 years old and I'm super OCD too and I think they all match pretty well!

@chopsuey: fancy! I think I heard Bosch makes the quietest dishwashers. True?

Matching color will help with resale and in my opinion just looks better. Matching brand isn't as big of a deal.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: yes. very quiet! I didn't realize how quiet my machine was until I was over at a friend's house and heard hers running.

The other thing is we're foodies that love to be in the kitchen. There are specific brands that give us what we wanted for each appliance. I didn't want to be pigeonholed into one brand for everything!
