A friend generously gifted us some Matilda Jane outfits. Quality seems great even if not really my "style." I did a quick search and its ALL over Facebook. I guess I have been living under a rock. Is it like Lularoe for babies? Anyway, anyone have experience with it?

I don't have a little girl (my opinion might change if I did), but I think it looks ridiculous. I know Joanna Gaines had a special edition line with it, and her girls wear it... But it's just too much. The quality seems to be great (I have a friend that sells it and dresses her girls in it), it's just the ruffles and all the prints that are put on one article of clothing.

I like the calm cute side but there are some styles that are just way too much. And for the record I personally haven't seen the JG's daughters looking too crazy!

Put me in the “hate it” camp. I get print fatigue just trying to look at a rack of Matilda Jane. And I don’t understand the excessive frills. I feel like someone with no design sense creates them.
My friend who buys some MJ said she’s going to stop because she can never get stains out of their fabric, unlike Hanna or Primary fabric. Maybe that’s why they have all the crazy prints—to hide the stains.

I like to watch the show Outdaughtered and they’re always wearing this stuff. Personally I don’t love it - it’s too busy and too much stuff. The outfits you got are pretty cute, though.

I would not go out of my way to buy it. It seems like a regional thing- kind of like Lilly Pultzier- which I love but only buy during their 2x a year sale.

I don't mind pattern mixing (I'm very in favor, actually), but I don't buy clothing with ANY ruffles/flounces/etc., so this stuff is a hard no for me. I've seen it on social media some, but don't encounter it much in real life. The pants are just stupid looking.

Overall, the brand is just too much for me. I dont understand the pants. However, our family photographer was partnering with MJ and did a trunk show right at the time DD was due for some pics. We got a credit to spend at MJ and bought this. The quality is amazing but I haven't been back to buy anything else. I think some of their dresses are more simple and cute, but I dont like wading through the other styles to find them. Also, stuff sells out quickly and I'm so over that--I'd rather stock up on Primary.

It might look cute on some ppl but the patterns are too much for me. And too frilly.

I agree that the stuff my friend gave me is more on the simple side and I like it...but some of the stuff I saw online is TOO MUCH.

We have three dresses for DD that I picked up at a local consignment shop. Most stuff is way over the top, and I hate hate hate the ruffle pants. Looks like a clown 🤡 outfit. I just pair the dresses with simple tights or plain leggings to bring it all down a notch. Quality is good but I’m still not willing to pay full price.

@crazydoglady: both of those are cute, but u especially love the first one with the eyelet trim. I fear having a little girl because as a second time mom I'll know she will wear a lot of sleepers for a while... BUT I'll want to buy the cute definitely not everyday wear stuff too much

@Sams Mom: It was so weird when I found out #2 was a girl. I entered the baby girl dept like "am I really allowed in now?" I have been so used to dump trucks, excavators, dinosaurs...

As a mother of a three year old girl who LOVES to dress up, I have to admit I fell down the Matilda Jane hole... but I've resurfaced a little more practical. I only bought like three items full price, but the quality hooked me and I found BST pages and got more! But like many of you have already mentioned, I quickly realized my daughter looked ridiculous, not adorable, if dressed head to toe in MJ. So I resold a bunch and kept a few tamer prints. I don't mind a little pattern mixing here and there, but I definitely prefer an MJ top or dress with plain leggings. I also only buy used or on Zulily when they are on sale. The prints that they have overstock of are usually calmer. In fact, one of the shirts I bought recently was one solid color! So, yeah, I have some MJ for my girl, but I tame it down and I don't own ANY of the ruffle bottoms. Pictured here is my daughter in a hand-me-down MJ jacket.
